Officials with the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission, or IBWC, said they received word from the agencys Mexican counterpart, the Comision Internacional de Limites y Aguas, or CILA, there was no report of a spill.
We did speak with Mexico, and we got through to CILA, and they said theres no information regarding a spill, said Lori Kuczmanski, spokeswoman for IBWC...
Spearheaded by Dedina, an effort is building throughout the county to take the IBWC to court to force the federal agency to ramp up pressure on Mexico to stop the sewage spills. Imperial Beach and Chula Vista, as well as the city, county and port of San Diego have now all filed an intent to sue the agency.
Right now, we dont seem to have any help in our United States government in combating these sewage flows and protecting public health, Dedina said.
The Tijuana-based environmental group Proyecto Fronterizo de Educación Ambiental did independent water testing on Friday and leaders of the organization said they found extremely high levels of fecal indicator bacteria in Playas de Tijuana. The group has pointed to the deteriorating San Antonio de Los Buenos sewage treatment plant at Punta Bandera as the likely source of the pollution. Mexican officials have said that upgrading the plant is a top priority in a massive infrastructure overhaul that would cost at least $372 million. Starting last Thursday evening, sewage polluted miles of shoreline from coastal communities south of the border to Imperial Beach, said Paloma Aguirre, coastal and marine director with the nonprofit environmental group Wildcoast.
Wildcoast said it contacted the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health about the contamination the agency that oversees beach closures but no testing was done and the shoreline remained open through the weekend.

But, but, but......aren’t there poop monitors in calibfornia?
Could be the next big hit for Jimmy Buffett here... “Tijuana Tidal Wave”.
They want the taxpayer to pay for a new system.
Sewage was probably intentionally released in response to the border wall prototypes that can be seen from TJ.
Only if we can build a clinic to Tijuana to provide free tubal ligations and vasectomies.
This happened all the time back in SD during the 70’s and 80’s. The surfers used to say “IB (Imperial Beach) is a no go, the Mexican Brown Trout are running again.”
Nothing new or unusual about this at all...
Technically its not a “spill” if you pumped the raw sewage into the ocean on purpose.
When de whitewater foam turn brown...
Audacious asking for federal assistance after sanctuary state legislation signed by moonbeam brown.
“Mommy, what kind of sea shell is this?”
Ah, the smell burnt meat mingled with the sweet odor of raw sewage, that’s my memory of TJ.
My thought exactly.
I lived in San Diego in the `80s. Even then EVERYONE KNEW not to go to Imperial Beach because of the proximity to the border and the Tijuana River.
These idiots get what they deserve. Should have hopped in the car and gone to OB or PB.
This is the kind of crap (no pun intended) that should be vigorously fought against and exposed instead of chasing the global warming ghost.
Highly toxic filth is actually spread to all part of the country, not just the San Diego area.
Mexico the gift that keeps on giving
All de surfers make a beeline for da ground...
