THE BUSH CANDIDACY; G.O.P. Leaders Fret at Lapses In Bush's Race (Flashback)

Prominent Republicans around the country, including several who advise Gov. George W. Bush, say they are worried that his candidacy has floundered in recent weeks, allowing Vice President Al Gore to build on his velocity from the Democratic convention in a way that they never expected. While none of these Republicans expressed panic and all said that Mr. Bush could reverse the trend, they acknowledged puzzlement, frustration and even some distress about the strides that Mr. Gore has made, a degree of progress that they said went beyond an inevitable tightening in polls. ''There's no doubt about it: There's real worry about the general state of things,'' said William J. Bennett, the former secretary of education, who has advised Mr. Bush from time to time. ''There's nervousness that was not there before.''

The Supreme Court elected GW President.

It took 9 votes to secure him the WH.

He had no real mandate and if it wasn’t for 9/11, he very likely would have been a one term President.

Sparing us the horrors of Obama.

True. In July 2001 he was irrelevant. After 9/11, it was a wake up call.

“The Supreme Court elected GW President.”

An inane statement....something one would expect from the ignorant left.

Bush won by the slimmest of margins but he DID win and SCOTUS simply affirmed what the voters intended.

Well, even so President John F’n Kerry wouldn’t have been much better.

Lurch would have been bad..... but when you think about Obama, the lesser of two evils comes to mind.

We could have done without the dubious progress of softened bigotry and lowered expectations.

Sparing us the horrors of Obama.

Another horror would have taken his place, and we might actually have a President Hillary today.
