Democrats decided 16 months before the 2018 election how they would start winning races again. Gathered in a small Virginia town on a sweltering July day, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and their lieutenants laid out a Better Deal" agenda focused on middle-class jobs and higher wages a vow, they said, that their party would never again waver from a laser-like focus on the economy.
Donald Trump makes some promises difficult to keep.
Just days later, the president declared on Twitter that transgender men and women were banned from the military. His action drew a swift rebuke from Democrats, who rose in unison to denounce the president over the newest front in a cultural not economic fight.
The pattern would repeat itself through the summer and into the fall. Whether it was his response to the Charlottesville white nationalist march or his condemnation of NFL players who knelt during the anthem to protest police brutality, Trump forced Democrats onto the battlefield of his choosing.
And if he keeps doing it now that the one-year countdown to Election Day 2018 has begun, it could very well mean Democrats are denied the chance to win back majorities in the House or hold onto their numbers in the Senate.
As much as Im appalled by the daily actions from the Oval Office, I have to admire the presidents ability to keep us talking about anything other than jobs and economic well-being, said Democratic Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut. If we keep falling for that, we will pay a huge political cost.

Oh yes, they did a fine job with it too, during 2008-2016.
Nearly 95 million Americans not in the work force.
But trust them, they’ll really, really do it this time. Forget about those 8 years and nearly 95 million Americans.
But democrats also lose on jobs.
Yes, as campaigns unfold, let’s talk about the legacy of the Obama years. The Obama years show us what happens, when we put liberals in charge of our government. Let’s have that debate, and discuss the record of the Obama administration.
The Democrats have secured themselves to the fraudulently documented foreigners and against the citizens and the rule of law.
Ralph Northam found out that Democrats cannot try to side with the citizens and the rule of law without being savaged.
There HAVE to be Democrats who saw Obama do nothing. There are many who are still deluded but there’s no way that fraud did much of anything for anyone (well, except his buddies). I hope some have woken up.
A bunch of them sure don’t like Hillary anymore. I’m actually kinda shocked. They rip into her at Yahoo like a fresh cake; most still protect their beloved Obama though.
They want it Desperately. Just look at how they Hate the Nation Anthem.
I could go on.
Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and their lieutenants laid out a Better Deal” agenda focused on middle-class jobs and higher wage.
Obama act 2 fail to ensue.
One last thing, the poll is ABC/WAPO. How accurate have they been in recent history??
Perhaps if they cut back a wee bit from perpetually jumping up and down and throwing poo at each other
“We are focused like a laser-beam on growing the economy and doing it in a way that creates more shared prosperity, said Sen. Chris Van Hollen......”
The ‘Rats only want to make themselves great again.
Their base is NOT focused on the economy like a laser.
They are focused on accusing everyone else of being RACIST, SEXIST, BIGOTED, HOMOPHOBIC and MEAN SPIRITED. They are never going to let the Dem Party focus on the economy.
I’ll bet they are but hey the fake ABC-Wapo poll says they will roll to BIG victories next year. Move along folks nothing to see here. Ha ha ha ha
3% GDP, $4.1% Unemployment, 1.7% Core Inflation Rate, new factories being built here in the US instead of overseas, taxcuts and tax reform on the burner................Yeah, if the economy gets any worse they’ll have to lie................
Absolutely agree. That is literally their entire platform and one of the main reasons Trump won.
Lol. The economy is improving. The RATs have nothing.
Hillary’s whole campaign was Trump Derangement Syndrome—don’t vote for Trump because he is a horrible person (to shift attention from how corrupt and unlikeable she is). It almost worked for her and the Democrats haven’t been able to come up with any better ideas since.
Is he living in a parallel Bizarro Universe? The economy is humming along like it hasn't for 20 to 25 years. Trump keeps talking up the economy and jobs. This week, he's pressuring Japan to expand their auto factories in the U.S. Is Hines asleep under a rock?
