For The First Time In 13 Years, U.S. Deploys 7 Aircraft Carriers Simultaneously

The US has simultaneously deployed 7 of the 11 U.S. nuclear aircraft carriers for the first time in over a decade according to the US Naval Institute. The three aircraft carriers with full air wings and strike groups positioned in the Western Pacific are the following: USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76); USS Nimitz (CVN-68); USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). Another four are conducting “short training missions as part of training operations or workups ahead of deployment”. Two out of four are operating in Eastern Pacific – USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) – and the remaining two are operating in the Atlantic, the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78).

Back in 2016, six carriers were underway and that was considered a “milestone event” by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson. The last time 7 carriers were deployed dates back to 2004, according to USNI. The report quotes an unidentified Navy official to sheds more light on the upcoming drills:

But is there anyone that knows how to steer them? Evidence would point to maybe not.

Hate to say it but that was my first thought also.

Hope they don’t run into each other.

At some point, they’ll have to head back to the yard.

Carrier battle groups operate far away from normal shipping routes.

"Does the Navy have 21 competent Helmsmen?"

Those previous errors have not been helmsmen errors. The helmsman does just exactly what the OOD (officer of the deck) tells him to do.
He has no authority to turn the helm in any direction other than what he is told.

I do not like the idea of naming our carriers after Presidents and politicians. I would prefer the classics, like Lexington and Hornet.

THIS!!! There are fewer carriers than ever, so all the classic Revolutionary war names should be used. Its disgusting to name a ship after a politician... no exceptions post WWI. Probably post Spanish American war.

Hopefully, the leftovers from Obama’s Keystone Navy can avoid running over a fishing boat with one of these. The odds aren’t too good though.

Don't worry. We'll be in control of Skynet.

Now, just push that "Enter" key.....(never mind the question was Y/N?) - (now I gotta watch it again to make sure, lol)

“Siri, launch night ops against Pyongpang”
“Yes, launching nights ops against Danang, got it.”

Let's get this right up front: I'm a proud "Mustang Officer" was Enlisted, now retired Officer. Had both air and surface experience, and in the reserve, served on 8 ships.

It's both inferior enlisted and officers to blame, where blame is due. Recruiting has been "UNSAT" for years. Training, fatigue and maintenance have suffered as well.

I've seen my Navy go up and down several times. Remember Vietnam?

We can get it together, again. Putting this many carriers at sea could be a kick in the butt!
