California promises free community college tuition, but how will it pay?

Weeks after Gov. Jerry Brown signed AB 19, which waives fees for first-time freshmen at California community colleges, officials in the Los Rios Community College District are wondering where the money will come from to pay for the tuition breaks.

AB 19 would expand upon the current fee waiver for low-income students, recently renamed the California Promise Grant. The new grant would waive the first year of fees for all first-time, full-time students attending a California community college, regardless of need.

Los Rios supported the bill, but spokesman Gabe Ross recently expressed concern that money could wind up being diverted from the district’s general operating funds.

“As is always the case, the devil’s in the details,” Ross said. “Our position was one of support, but we want to make sure that we’re not robbing Peter to pay Paul.”

In its August analysis of AB 19, the finance department said the bill “creates significant new and ongoing Proposition 98 General Fund costs that are not included in the Governor's Budget plan.” The Department estimated that this strain, coupled with the loss of student fee revenues, could reduce funding for community college districts by anywhere from $30 to $50 million.

Californication already gives half of its students free college and the rest it charges the lowest fees in America already. FYI.

Only a couple hundred bucks per semester in the 70’s.

The increase is NOT “inflation”, its THEFT.

Maybe the parking fees on campus will go up to make up the difference.

California is run on taxes and massive debt, in our printed, fiat, completely unbacked Federal Reserve currency.

They are in a sweet spot at this brief historical moment, where massive tech over-valuation, low interest rates at centuries-lows, and massive government and consumer debt, are all creating a virtuous circle for California’s funding.

Simple. Slash all government salaries and perks. These socialist workers won’t mind sharing their wealth with the poor.

“Teachers and administrators should work for free.”
No no no.
It should be “WHITE teacher and administrators should work for free.”

Of course, no MSM collection of clowns will ever list the academic “majors” of the folks pursuing these freebies. Wanna bet STEM subjects are at the bottom, and useless sociology, SJW, etc and associated pablum first grade materials are at the top.

If California would lead the states to support Pres. Trump in putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that the post-17th Amendment ratification Congress cannot justify under Congress’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, then the states would probably find new revenues to do lots of the public improvement projects that they want to do.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States."—Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

It’s simple. One of many plans they have is based on global warming

phase 1: Build more windmills
phase 2: ?
phase 3: Profit

They have similar plans built around illegal immigration, health care for all, BLM, and many other issues. They’ve started “phase 1” on all of them. Just wait until they get to “phase 3” - it’ll be exciting.

How will California pay for ANYTHING?

Same as always - whoever makes the loudest clamor, gets paid first. When whatever funds they have run out, then the authorities pay nobody, and they go crying to the Feds that they are “broke”.

The Feds say, “Sure, we would provide some cash, but you have to comply with some of our requirements first.”

At which point, the California authorities reply , “Oh HELL no!”

Pride and defiance have a surprisingly high price tag.

How do you think they will pay for it? The productive classes will pay for it like they do every other “free” item in California.

Actually, I applaud this bill, because it’s just another nail in the RATs coffin here. The sooner they cause CA to go bankrupt, the sooner the rebuilding will start. Hopefully, when that time comes, there will be another Trump here to lead us.
Between CA’s state debt, and the numerous cities here big and small with unsustainable debt ( mostly due to pensions of their PEs), the end is not far off.

California promises free community college tuition, but only for illegal alien immigrants and YOU will pay!

Fixed it!
