Skip to comments.I Was Verbally Abused And Humiliated By My Army Drill Sergeant in 1969 (*SOB*)

It's true, I can't believe I've held this incredible pain inside me for so long but I have to tell somebody how cruelly and unfairly I was treated, Oh so long ago.
I was new to the Army, heading to Basic Training in 1969, wanting to make a difference and serve my country and America but what I encountered shook me to my very core.
Me, a wide-eyed recruit, got off the bus at Fort Lewis Washington and was immediately yelled at and verbally abused by this looming, big, (and mean), Staff Sergeant named SSG Gritman.
He singled me out immediately because he hated me and made me fall into a position I would come to know and hate, the FRONT LEANING REST Position, (*SOB*), to do push-ups I didn't deserve to do because I was nice person!!
This monster of a man continued to demean and harass me throughout the entire 8 weeks of training, always singling me out as if I were his pet DOG, never relenting, never cutting me slack, never saying he was sorry!
Well, here it is, the reason I confessed my pain and suffering from so long ago; I want to find former Drill Sergeant Gritman, and have Congress indict him on charges of having been mean to me those many years ago.
This is in response to ALL these female women feigning sexual abuse and worse from Judge Moore from DECADES ago.
I'm frankly sick and tired of this crap.
OK, Flame me!
I’ve had it!
LOL! Suck it UP, Buttercup! ;)
One time this guy at school in 8th grade gave me a mean look.
No flame here. I hope it devolves into a war stories thread, though, that would be rad.
Did you get recycled?
You should have heard the things he said about yo momma!
I come forward now because I have heard the stories of the other victims of Sergeant Gritman, both before me and after me. Their courage in coming forward has given me the strength to finally speak the truth in public.
You gave me an idea. I’m going to look up one of my Drill Sergeants who chewed raw garlic and got in my face and made me give him 30 at regular intervals. I’ve suffered for over 45 years because of that guy.
Actually I made E-2 out of basic, but that’s not the point, HE WAS MEAN TO ME! :-)
I got to Ft Leonard Wood, MO, in mid ‘66; our basic training unit Captain welcomed us to the US Army and introduced Senior Drill Instructor Master Sergeant Nicholson.
I’ll never forget his first words: “The Captain calls you ‘gentlemen’ but you’re bullsh*t to me.”
Then he got mean.
How about “I’ve killed better men than you”.
I felt this way in 1977.
You should have shown him your “no harassment” card and told him he was hurting your feelings.
That gives me a great idea. I was beaten with a 12” stick, because I didn’t memorize something that was in the book I was given. It was an elderly woman dressed in black, with glasses and a mean disposition. I was abused! For what, just because I didn’t memorize some paragraph? I remember, it stated with “Hail Mary, full grace....something”. That was 70 years ago, and I carried that scar all these years.
Now pack in there you maggots!
Ft Ord, Jan ‘69. Had some tough drill sergeants too.
