Anthony McClanahan, 46, has been charged with killing his 28-year-old wife Keri "KC" McClanahan.
A FORMER professional NFL player murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a knife as she desperately tried to fight him off, prosecutors say.
Anthony McClanahan, who trained with the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s, has been charged with killing his 28-year-old wife Keri "KC" McClanahan.
The 46-year-old allegedly sliced his wife's neck and then crawled on the ground outside their rented Utah home in the Park Regency in Park City before flagging down a police officer, officials said.
McClanahan initially told officers he, his wife and baby had been attacked, but investigators found no evidence of a break-in or an infant at the property.
His wife's body was found in the apartment he had rented after someone else at the building called 911, saying he was crawling low to the ground through the hallways and calling for help.

She suffered cuts to the front, back and sides of her neck, as well as other defensive wounds and carpet burns.
The murder weapon was a small, sharp knife she'd worn sheathed in a nylon paracord bracelet, charging documents stated.
Police found her husband covered in blood and crawling on his stomach outside early in the morning of November 2.
He lifted himself up just enough to flag down a police officer, then dropped back down and began convulsing, his arms making a "snow angel motion", the officer on scene told prosecutors.
McClanahan had been charged with child kidnapping last month after authorities said he took his eight-year-old son from a previous relationship from his school in Arizona and travelled with him through Nevada and Utah.
He was arrested in Utah on October 12 and gave his son back, then bonded out of jail a week later.
He and his wife rented the apartment in Park City a few days later, charging documents said.
Originally from California, McClanahan played four years with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in the mid-1990s after a collegiate career at Washington State University.
He was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 1994 but never played in a game.
Keri McClanahan, who went by KC, had been planning to leave her husband but wanted to help him get on his feet first, her sister Heather Gauf said.
The couple had met last year when he was working as a personal trainer in her hometown of Bellingham, Washington, and he pushed for a fast wedding, Gauf said.
"It worried me a lot,'" she said, but "he kind of had us fooled".
McClanahan was charged with first-degree felony child kidnapping and first-degree murder.

What a misleading title. The SOB was never an active member of the Dallas Cowboys and damn sure was not a ‘star’.
I never understand why the media plays up the fact someone WAS in the military or WAS a pro sports athlete when describing the crime unless there is a strong link between the past and crime.
Unless they want to minimise the military and sport? Naw! They are not that motivated.
I thought you needed a “high powered, assault rifle” to kill someone. I didn’t know you could do it with a “small sharp knife”. We really need to ban homicide. Where are the “moms” at on this?

When you read about how OJ behaved - PLENTY of signs.
Not a fan of the tattoo, but she was a very lovely young lady.
I don’t think it’s a good idea, in general, to get involved with NFL players (though there are exceptions; used to love that Vicks commercial with, I think it was the Saints QB, who rubbed his little boy who had a cold with the salve).
It just seems like football encourages aggression and who knows what happens with head injuries. I am just speculating here.
