What to Do about the Emerging Threat of Censorship Creep on the Internet
Cato Institute ^ | November 28, 2017 | Danielle Keats Citron

Popular tech companies—Google, Facebook, Twitter, and others—have strongly protected free speech online, a policy widely associated with the legal norms of the United States. American tech companies, however, operate globally, and their platforms are subject to regulation by the European Union, whose member states offer less protection to expression than does the United States. European regulators are pressuring tech companies to control and suppress extreme speech. The regulators’ clear warning is that, if the companies do not comply “voluntarily,” they will face harsher laws and potential liability. This regulatory effort runs the risk of censorship creep, whereby a wide array of protected speech, including political criticism and newsworthy content, may end up being removed from online platforms on a global scale.

European regulators cannot be expected to pull back and adopt U.S. norms for speech. The tech company leaders may, however, reduce the risks to free speech by insisting on clear definitions of “hate speech,” holding regulators accountable before the public, fostering detailed transparency of government actions, and appointing ombudsmen.

I wonder how much of it is the EU regulators and how much is just Google being SJW pricks.

“I wonder how much of it is the EU regulators and how much is just Google being SJW pricks.”

That is just it. Those companies are already shutting down Conservatives.

Creep:(verb) to move slowly and carefully, especially in order to avoid being heard or noticed:

They’re not creeping, they’re in all out, in your face, censorship mode.

What is he smoking? Those companies named have been strongly censoring conservatives by selectively lowering their hit counts and biasing search results agianst them for several years now. Facebook particularly is demonetizing gun websites left and right.

Yeah, until they gained market dominance. Now it’s about advancing leftist authoritarian politics.

First Youtube selectively shut down and intimidated conservative videos. So the conservative videos wouldn’t say the obvious and some of the commentors were asking, “Why don’t you just come out and say....” Now Youtube has announced that they will delete or remove videos based on the comments posted below them. This in effect now but now enforce; Youtube will enforce it’s new policy restricting channels based on user comments starting December 18 of this year.

So, commentors beware. Also - how much you wanna bet that libs put vile things in the comments of conservative videos for the express purpose of having them deleted.

SOme have said, “Well it’s their channel, they can do what they want.” ANd in part, they are correct, just as FR is Jim’s channel and he can do what he wants. However, I submit that facebook and twitter are monopolies in that businesses are not considered competitive unless they have facebook page, twitter account, etc. So to pull a channel based on censorship exerts an undue financial pressure. I believe this “hammer” is by design - the left embeds their services until they are considered industry standard and then prevents the conservatives from the market place. Youtube channels direct consumer traffic and the marketplace of ideas to their websites and facebook pages etc.

The natives are restless so the left is posing their censorship as foisted upon them by EU. Not impressed.

1. Stop saying Big Tech can discriminate based on their views when conservatives aren’t allowed to discriminate based on their beliefs.
If the baker has to make the pro-homosexual wedding cake, Google has to serve gun ads. Anything else is unfair.

2. Break up Google, Facebook and Twitter as monopolies.
Google contains 90%+ of online ads, 60%+ of online search, a large plurality of content when you include YouTube. The only reason Big Tech’s business practices infringe on freedom of speech is because they are so big they control the public square.

It isn’t just shutting down accounts of some and outright banning some comments. They are SYSTEMATICALLY OPPRESSING any content not far left or mindless fluff, by design, to varying degrees.

The Methods and Layers of Censorship on YouTube
https://hubpages.com/technology/The-Methods-and-Layers-of-Censorship-on-YouTube

This is a lesson of the dangers of AI. They are created by liberally biased Big Tech companies, trained further on far left data sources, and the presented as “neutral” censors and arbiters. No, they aren’t neutral, they reflect the liberal biases baked into the system from conception to deployment.

But people think “oh, it is a computer, it is neutral”. And think we need more of such automation without thinking about the values we’re building into such systems that liberally automate systematic oppression.

Globalism is communism. Censorship of speech is a given. Hostility towards Christianity is a given.

When they have enough centralized money and power, they will set up a model of the Chi Com government and imprison the economically, politically and socially incorrect.
