Sen. Orrin Hatch calls Donald Trump ‘one of the best’ presidents he’s seen in office

During his nearly 41 years in office, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch has seen seven presidents in the White House. Donald Trump, he said Wednesday, is “one of the best I’ve served under.”

“He’s not afraid to make decisions,” Hatch said during an interview broadcast by MSNBC. “He’s not afraid to take on the big mouths around here.”

The Republican senator later clarified online that Trump is “the best president I’ve served ‘under’ in terms of line of succession.” Hatch, 83, is third in the line for the presidency as Senate president pro tem, and apparently wanted to dispel any implication that he believed that Congress is subordinate to the executive branch. He joked that “if we’re talking best presidents I’ve served alongside, that list would also include Lincoln, Reagan and James K. Polk, who really knew how to command a room.”

I have never been much of a Hatch fan, but he is starting to grow on me.

When I worked for our esteeeeeeemed government, I had Bill Clinton’s fat f*** face looming over my desk.

I would sign up again now willingly.

He’s friends with these politicians, and even on the left. But his actions don’t suggest collusion with the enemy. In fact, my enemy hates this guy which makes me proud to associate with him and his.

How the Speaker of the House comes before the President of the Senate...makes absolutely no sense to me.

Even those never-Trumpers who don't like Trump's style must admit they have to like a lot of what he's done so far in office - he's governing as the most conservative president we've had since Reagan. Guys like George Will and Bill Kristol reveal themselves as faux conservatives when they let their personal dislike of Trump take priority over the reality of his presidency.

As for me, if Trump can just get the border wall built, I'd proclaim him the greatest president since Lincoln.

I’m suspicious of Hatch. He’s a less toxic version of McCain. He’s trying to suck up and he must have a hidden reason for it.

If you judge the tree by its fruit, Trump has been an amazing president. He not only gets stuff done, but he exposes the lunacy of the left, and the members of the R party that are RINO’s.

What’s not to like about the guy?

And I say that as a former “never trumper”, though I was never quite that adamant, or I would not have voted for him.

That would be me. Except I LOVE what he’s done so far.

The defeat of ISIS, the greatest economic success any President in history has had in his first year, the largest tax cut the Republic has known and many, many other achievements.

Trump stands for me as already the second greatest President in the history of the Republic, only Washington do I consider higher.

I couldn’t agree more.

It will take years to see just how much Trump will have done for the cause of Liberty.

How the Speaker of the House comes before the President of the Senate...makes absolutely no sense to me.

The President of the Senate is the Vice President. I think it then goes to Speaker because the Speaker is the presiding officer of the House. Then sucession goes back to the Senate Pro Tem. There is some logic and balancing to it.

Hatch is obviously ignoring the ruling establishment’s mantra of Trump being mentally unfit to serve as POTUS. Establishment and Democrat conundrum?

Originally, it went to VP, Senate Pro Tem and then the speaker of the house....according to Jefferson.

Trump is the 12th president in my life time and he is the best of all twelve as far as I’m concerned. Obama is the worst.

he exposes the lunacy of the left

That has been an unexpected bonus. I haven't seen the left running around in circles with their hair on fire like this since the early 1980s ... and they'll very soon (if they haven't already) exceed the lunacy of their predecessors.

Yes, that’s right because the notion was that the President Pro Tem would be the Acting Vice President. What’s also changed is that neither the VP nor the President Pro Tem spends much time presiding over the Senate. They delegate it to junior senators from the majority.
