Sounds like what happened with Jimmy Savile at the BBC for years.

Not a surprise, since he has been very discreet but there have still been rumors. He was sort of a Michael Jackson type, I think - a person with a lot of negative perceptions of himself as physically unattractive (objectively speaking, neither of them was attractive to either men or women) who begins by promoting and encouraging a young person and then at some point ends up intimidating and making a sexual move on them.

Very sad end to a great career. And of course, the Met board knew about it, also sad because the Met doesn’t have a lot of money to throw around. The productions are very lavish, prices are very high, but they need to keep the donor stream coming.

Levine is famous for being drunk, abusive and homo.

And everybody around him tolerated it, overlooked it, covered it up, pretended it wasn't there ... It's OK to be an abusive drunk faggot if you're a "great artist". Until it's not.

I'm personally tired of the idea that it's OK to let abusers carry on with their abuse. I'm tired of it in the clergy, in teaching, in scouting, in coaching, in policing ... yes, even in the all-holy "arts" community.

Gee, I wonder what the maestro kissed on the boy. I can’t figure out this code.

The usual dysfunctional gay guy grooming a child and then attempting to have sex with him...Levine’s definitely an UWS icon, but then, there are probably many musicians there who have gotten where they are through that version of the symphonic/orchestral casting couch.

I find this terribly shocking and very sad. James Levine is a brilliant conductor. I knew him years ago when he was the conductor of the Chicago Symphony orchestra Ravinia festival. I used to love watching him and the CSO rehearse. Very sad to hear about this.

In the 1970s feminism dictated that women should be out there working all day. There weren’t day cares nor after school programs. There weren’t cell phones. My mom worked long hours because she chose to, she didn’t even need to work. She had no idea where I was. She also chose to build her home with a children’s wing not far from the front of the property, with the master suite way in the back. This is one easy way to let predators get to your kids.

I edited it as such in order to minimize reasons for getting the posting yanked. :)

You describe an interesting upbringing, very different than mine. An upbringing with it’s own unique pros and cons.

I find hands way off parenting has only cons.

My kids had me near enough to protect them nearly all the time. When my kids turn 12, I don’t ditch them. Young teens need a LOT of guidance and actual presence by older people who TRULY have their best interests at heart.

I agree. I try to be very close to my teen boy and girl, take interest in their activities, give them some directed latitude in their decision making, watch their internet activity like a hawk, give them lots of hugs and let them know I love them, verbally and otherwise, even though they respond to that with grunts. I know they like that, though they won’t admit it!

Aw, your kids like it. My college boy loves to come home for the weekend, even if he doesn’t spend a ton of time hanging with me, he loves to be near us. We are like water on a rock. It APPEARS we have no effect, but over time, we do slowly shape these guys! You’re a good parent.

I don’t know where you get the idea that he’s been discreet, lol! It’s known all over Manhattan what his proclivities are and that the Met has been covering up for him for decades. He still gets warm ovations when he enters the opera house, though.
