Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has someone in mind to replace Al Franken should he resign

Should Sen. Al Franken announce his resignation, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is seriously considering appointing his second-in-command to take the spot, according to a new report.

Sources told ABC News that Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, a Democrat like her boss, is a top contender to replace Franken, at least temporarily.

A special election would follow for voters to pick someone to serve for the remainder of Franken's term, which ends in January 2021.

Franken is facing immense pressure from dozens of fellow Democratic senators to resign amid mounting allegations of sexual misconduct.

He revealed that he will be making an announcement Thursday but has denied a report that said he has already made up his mind to resign.

Her cv includes serving as a VP for Planned Parenthood. She’s a liberal rock star.

They will have plenty of time to print up and store fake ballots like Frankenstein used to get elected the first time.

I'm trying to look at the long game. There were Murkowski and Lieberman, who lost primaries but were finagled into an election win. There was Cocheran with that despicable primary runoff steal. Now there's Roy Moore and Al Franken. This is all about US Senators usurping power and getting to choose who serves in the US Senate (voters are such an inconvenience to the elite).

Al Franken should stay. Roy Moore should be embraced by establishment Republicans....the voters chose the nominee. And the US Senate should stop being worse than what the Roman Empire had.

I can't agree with you there.I think that the most fitting candidate is a newly arrived resident of the Land of 10,000 Fakes...that would be the very conscience of today's Rat Party: Bill Ayers.

He's tanned,rested and ready.

Gov. Dayton’s pick only will serve until the Nov 2018 election. The MN GOP better come up with a good candidate and not have a 75 contender slugfest. Best choice would be Pete Hegseth. Hillary carried the state only with votes in three counties and with a good conservative candidate the GOP could capture Franken’s seat.

If DJT would fire enough swamp rats at DOJ the country could at least begin to identify the rat felon hordes in D.C. This would also end the Russian witch hunt and expose it for what it was. Once the president takes these steps anything is possible in 2018. Of course it all depends on how long that stooge Sessions will be allowed to stonewall justice.

Ellison is the most likely to have the same problems as Franken

I had thought that he might be the most likely candidate, but now I'm not so sure. It makes more sense for Dayton to appoint Tina Smith or Lori Swanson.

You’re right and then Minnesota can brag of having 2 women senators who’d never sexually harass anyone, at least any males.
