Hiroshima atomic bombing survivor Setsuko Thurlow and International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) leader Beatrice Fihn on Saturday urged the United States and North Korea to negotiate and avoid nuclear war.

On Sunday, the two will receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

Thurlow, 85, was 13 years old at the time of the Hiroshima bombing.

"No human being should suffer what we suffered," Thurlow told reporters Saturday. "I deeply and strongly urge the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. never to use nuclear weapons ... Negotiate....

This is HOW you negotiate with Kim Jung Un. Anything not backed up with a credible threat will be taken as weakness.

Nothing like experience to draw a bead on a problem.

These folks need to look in to the suffering in NoKo prison camps. Suffering comes in many varieties.

Hey pal, if it wasn’t for Fat Man and Little Boy, you probably would have perished. Those bombs wound up saving even more Japanese lives than American lives.

I don’t get your reference.

Parenthetically, why is this fellow getting a Nobel Prize. He’s not a mass murderer or a pathological liar.

Fat Man and Little Boy were the code names for the bombs that dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Gee, I wonder if they should have been insisting on this with Bill, Hillary, Barack, and others as well?

Weakness, decades of appeasement and huge Danegeld payments have brought us to this point. How do you negotiate with communist tyrants? Our demand ought to be the elimination of all nuclear weapons and rockets; end of the armistice; reunification; the replacement of the regime with a democratically elected government; and making communism illegal.

Little Boy was the uranium device used on Hiroshima. Fat Man was the plutonium device used on Nagasaki.

I am pretty sure this is the same woman who came to my daughter’s high school with her story. She had burn scars, which anyone that survived a house-fire might have. She has no moral authority to pass judgement on USA, and she is a shrill for anti-nuke protests.

When asked about the possible loss of life of US forces invading Japanese mainland that estimated 500,000 GI’s could be killed, she says she didn’t think it would happen. Also, she didn’t know anything about Japanese bioweapons used on Chinese civilians.

Sorry, I wasn’t buying what she was selling....

Always suspected this ad slogan was an oblique reference to how at Hiroshima the Japanese truly got what they deserved. And they know they deserved it.

The US need not drop a single nuclear device on North Korean soil, a number of well-placed Massive OrdnanceAir Blast bomb would do quite as well, without radioactive fallout. If nuclear devices are used at all, it will be entirely upon the North Koreans and Fatboi, and how far they want to escalate this period of unpleasantness.

A somewhat smaller piece of ordnance, the BLU-82 “daisy cutter” was pretty effective for clearing out jungle for a helicopter landing place. Kind of kept the locals from re-occupying the zone for a while. They were all lying in the weeds with their ears bleeding.

If they had any blood left.
