Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Moving Ahead With Plan To Drug Test Food Stamp Users

Wisconsin may become the first state in America to drug test able-bodied adults applying for food stamps, if Gov. Scott Walker gets his way.

Walker moved ahead Monday with his plans, a move that has been blocked by the federal government or found unconstitutional when other states have tried.

Wisconsin’s plan was approved by the Republican-controlled legislature more than two years ago, but it languished because it conflicted with federal rules prohibiting states from imposing additional eligibility criteria on food stamp recipients.

Florida had a drug test requirement for food stamp recipients that a federal appeals court blocked in 2014, finding it violated constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. Walker filed a federal lawsuit in 2015 seeking approval to test food stamp applicants, but it was rejected because then-President Barack Obama’s administration had not yet formally rejected the state’s request to do the testing.

Walker asked then-President-elect Donald Trump’s administration in December 2016 to make clear that drug screening is permissible, but it has not taken action and now Walker is moving ahead anyway.

Wisconsin governor explains on 'Fox & Friends.'

Walker approved a rule change to implement the screening and sent it to the legislature for review Monday.

Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said the governor believes the state can proceed without any federal action, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

.....”Wisconsin may become the first state in America to drug test ‘able-bodied adults’ applying for food stamps, if Gov. Scott Walker gets his way”........

So how do they distinguish “able bodied?”.....

Two arms, two legs, breathing.....that pretty much says “able-bodied” to me.

Childless, not disabled.

At one time, I didn't think this category of people qualified for food stamps? Then again, Obama pretty much gave food stamps to anyone who asked for them.

This will help, somewhat. I’d love to see someone test them for food need... with a scale. Obese enough and instead of ‘food’ stamps you get Mooch stamps, redeemable only for items on her school lunch menus. Certified as not just good, but better, by the highest lib expert. If they want ‘food’ instead they can pay for that with their own $.

Well lets hope so.... 'Entitlement Addiction' is no answer. I suspect criminal activity will escalate as always does when you 'take away' their means of supporting their drug habits.....

Once you sign up for welfare, any new tats, any new face or body jewelry, and you’re automatically disqualified.

A note from you doctor on the drug test and the statis of your body decorations.

Go back to food stamps only for rice, beans, powdered milk and eggs, and 5# blocks of sharp cheddar cheese.

When they have to survive on K-rations they will go get a job.

MRE’s are too good for lazy slugs who refuse to work.

Those WW2 era K-rations are about right.

Chase them off welfare into a robust job market. I know rat politicians fear this more than anything.

I signed up to serve my country and was drug tested every so often. Seems to me if you sign up for welfare there is nothing unconstitutional about getting drug tested. If you don’t like the policy, don’t sign up for free money. It’s that simple.
