CBS looks to Jeff Glor to give 'CBS Evening News' a digital boost

s a youthful looking 42-year-old, Jeff Glor is the youngest anchor of “CBS Evening News” since Douglas Edwards first sat in the chair in 1948. It’s not all they have in common.

Edwards was a veteran radio journalist who was asked to move over to television when it was still a young, emerging medium. Glor, who took over the broadcast on Monday, has a mandate to lead the flagship evening newscast into the digital future.

The assignment comes as the evening news format is fighting to remain vital in an age when smartphones can provide headlines and video instantly.

CBS will be courting digital viewers by re-airing “CBS Evening News With Jeff Glor” on its streaming channel CBSN at 7 p.m. Pacific time after it airs on the network’s TV affiliates across the country. The anchor will also do newsmaker interviews and his program will produce reports that will air every day on CBSN, whether they make it onto his 30-minute broadcast or not.

Anchor news readers are nothing more than parental surrogates for adults who are children.

Haven’t watch network evening news in thirty or forty years.
I’ll take my news with one less step of manipulation, thanks.

News readers are dinosaurs. Except for some on FNC. You know which ones.

Wife and I generally watched NBC Nightly but recently switched to Fox.
In the past 12 months, the NBC newscast had become more “selective.”

I remember when NBC, CBS, etc eveing news was 15 minutes. No time for BS, straight reporting only...

See if that little fella gives CBS a boost.....

The three major evening news programs are fading away, just as newspapers and news magazines and many other media institutions are.

Kind of like a dude with a new Stetson hat walking the streets of Austin on a Saturday night.

(What’s the frequency, Kenneth?)!!!

CBS ???
HOME OF DAN RATHER ???

Now that is really funny..CBS, like NBC and ABC is worthless..all three have been shut down here for over twenty years...

We moved to FOX NEWS, and in the past two years, moved over to FOX BUSINESS and that is where we get our news...

Just a wild guess...Just an absolute stab in the dark:

He thinks a woman has the right to control her own body. He thinks we desperately need a woman President. He thinks Islam is a religion of peace. He thinks Mexicans enrich our culture. He thinks we don’t need “tax cuts for the rich.” He think Brexit is a terrible idea. He thinks bakers should just bake the cake.

Just guessing.
