Bernie Sanders concedes defeat on tax reform: 'We did everything that we could'
Washington Examiner ^ | Dec 17, 2017 | Kyle Feldscher

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said opponents of the Republican tax reform plan did all they could to stop it and essentially conceded defeat before a vote scheduled for Tuesday.

Sanders said on CBS’ “Face The Nation” there were too many forces opposing Democrats that they could not overcome.

“We did everything that we could. But at the end of the day what you had is people like [Treasury Secretary Steven] Mnuchin, who is worth $300 to 400 million; the president of the United States, who is worth several billion dollars, as you mentioned; from four or five thousand lobbyists doing everything they could to write a bill which significantly benefits the wealthiest people in this country and the largest corporations,” he said.

Congress is set to send a conference bill, cutting tax rates for most Americans and closing many popular deduction loopholes, to President Trump this week. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill Tuesday.

Sanders called the bill a major win for corporations but a huge hit for the middle class, who will see their tax rates increase after the cuts expire in 10 years.

“The way this bill is written is the tax breaks for corporations are now permanent, why weren't the tax breaks for middle class made permanent?” he said. “Because it has to do with the priorities of the folks who wrote that legislation. And their job is to represent multi-national corporations, not working families. That's where we are today.”

Bernie could have come off as a (slightly wacky) Statesman if he would have fought the corruption by the DNC in the primary. Instead he folded like a cheap suit, took the money and hid out in his new vacation home while Hillary gave it away. Now nobody in either party cares what he has to say.

You have to give McConnell and Ryan some credit for keeping the cats herded through this ramshackle process. They used the threat of Trump well, and the president played his role well. This is pretty close to the tax plan they ran on, and they actually got it done, minus the BAT which would have made it a lot more attractive in terms of the individual code.

Bernie: You and everyone else are such phonies it’s appalling. You and your colleagues complain: “The rich are not paying their fair share!” Okay, Bozo, then explain to me why you’re bitching when you guys are the ones who wrote the Tax Code in the first place?

Not to worry it and Obamacare can be revisited, revised, repealed, replaced and re-configured in President Donald J. Trump's (ILWT) second term

(ILWT = I Love Writing That)

This guy with an average middle class salary is going to have about $64 per month in take home pay starting in January 2018. While the tax bill has plenty of flaws, that is still $64 per month more than when Bernie’s people were in charge.

I guess I’m really behind the times. There are 52 Republican senators. I thought 60 votes were needed to pass a bill in the senate (to overcome a minority filibuster).

Bernie thinks all money belongs to the Federal Government and congress gets to decide how much we are allowed to keep.

FU Bernie! Go help your wife defraud another bank or two.

“too many forces opposing Democrats that they could not overcome”

Maybe that’s because they were right and the majority looked at it that way. You don’t generally lose a vote because you were outnumbered by people just because they disagreed with your agenda. They were interested in trying to improve something. You just wanted to play partisan politics, not do your job of making decisions in the best interest of the people. Sometimes your agenda is not right. But you’ll never know.
