Reno Decides Against Probe of Gore (Flashback)

NEW YORK –– Attorney General Janet Reno has decided not to name a special prosecutor to investigate the 1996 fund-raising activities of Vice President Al Gore, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Reno has rejected the recommendation of the head of the Justice Department's campaign finance unit, Robert J. Conrad Jr., which marks the third time that Reno has rejected such a recommendation to investigate Gore, the newspaper said.

The Times reported that Conrad was the only prosecutor in the department who thought there would be a need for an independent counsel.

The vice president has repeatedly maintained that he didn't know he was attending a fund-raiser when he visited a Buddhist temple in California where $60,000 in illegal donations were funneled to the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton-Gore re-election campaign.

Gore was questioned April 18 by Conrad, and Gore released the transcript of the interviews in June after word of Conrad's recommendation was disclosed to the press by Sen. Arlen Spector, R-Pa.

With Gore the problem was no controlling legal authority.

With Mueller it’s that there is no one controlling the legal authority.

That was the no controlling legal authority if I remember. Jesse Ventura: “It was much ado about nothing.” The press didn’t care so the solution is simple. Be more like Jesse Ventura.

When Gowdy resigns his seat and becomes the special prosecutor I’ll take it serious. You folks may not be impressed but he never lost I believe.

They all do. Remember when Eric Holder was held in contempt? Didn't hurt him a whole lot, did it? Remember when Lois Lerner took the 5th? Didn't hurt her a whole lot, did it? I figure, there won't be any justice here on earth, though I hope I am wrong. I suspect Janet Reno is getting hers right now. I don't wish that on anyone, but she was evil, and earned it. The wages of sin is death.

If I remember correctly, the HofR has to refer the contempt charge to the DoJ for prosecution. Unsurprisingly, the DoJ showed no interest in bring charges against AG Holder.
