The Conflict over Jerusalem Is ALL Obama's Fault
The Gatestone Institute ^ | December 19, 2017 | Alan M. Dershowitz

First, it is beyond the jurisdiction of the UN to tell a sovereign nation what it can and cannot recognize.

The United States often stands alone with Israel against the world, and the US and Israel have been right. The bias of the international community against the nation state of the Jewish people has been long standing and evident, especially at the UN.

Recall the infamous General Assembly Resolution declaring Zionism to be a form of racism. It received overwhelming support from the tyrannical nations of the world, which constitute a permanent majority of the UN, and was rescinded only after the US issued threats if it were to remain on the books.

The US acted properly in vetoing a misguided UN Security Council resolution designed to undo President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

This is an excellent article. It talks about how Obama engineered the December 2016 Security Council Resolution that declared the Western Wall, the Jewish Quarter and the access roads to be illegally occupied by Israel. This was an enormous change in U.S. policy. This change, previously opposed by the United States, made a negotiated peace impossible. It handed the Jewish holy places over to the Palestinians terrorists. It required that Israel try to get them back through negotiation. The prime minister of the Palestinian Authority said, "If we have the Wall, we will demand much to return it to Israel, because we know Israel will give much to get it."

Yes, Obama changed U.S. policy.

Trump is getting it right - as usual.

Orthodox Jews were celebrating Trump in the streets yesterday. Cernovich linked the video. MSM has completely ignored it. Had it been a move by Obama...

There are 50 predominantly muslim countries in the world.

Of course the UN is going to be against Israel.

Whether we like being in the UN or not,
we are the only buffer for Israel.
The only country with veto power that stands w/ Israel.

Dershowitz threatened to leave the Democrat party if Keith Ellison were voted to be the DNC chair. I half think Alan hoped that would have been the case so he could walk away from the Dem party. It is an enigma on where politically to put Dershowitz at this point. He certainly isn’t a contemporary “progressive” Democrat. I guess he is now some kind of moderate, looking for the straw that breaks the camel’s back. But he surely isn’t a conservative either.

Zechariah 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

We're on the precipice.

The Dersh is getting along in years...

I doubt, unless he's trashing a non-prog, his opinion matters to anybody.

Especially when he openly supports common sense more and more.

One radio host (and client) wondered why Dershowitz was "asking" for the wrath of the libs at his age.

In my opinion, Dershowitz is a dishonest, slime ball lawyer. His political opinions are leftist. I believe he was once a communist. He admired the former Soviet Union.

His most famous case was a really despicable performance in the OJ Simpson trial. There are few words that can describe how slimy and dishonest he was.

He was also dishonest in his defending Leona Helmsley, Mike Tyson and others. It is amazing he has not been disbarred.

But just like a stopped clock is right twice a day, Dershowitz is much better than the MSM in his analysis of the causes of the problems in the middle east and how Trump is doing a good job.

“It is an enigma on where politically to put Dershowitz at this point.”

Most liberals today are dishonest and unprincipled, and simply take emotional knee jerk positions against whatever conservatives want. The result is that their positions are irrational and internally inconsistant

There are a few honest liberals though and I think Dershowitz is one of them. Make no mistake though, he’s still extremely liberal in that he doesn’t think free enterprise results in a fair distribution of wealth - he still advocates big government wealth redistribution.

But he’s honest, and when he see his own party cheating and lying he doesn’t want any part of it. Good for him - I admire that.

But he’s still a far left liberal.

[ We’re on the precipice. ]

Yes we are. We are seeing God pushing Jerusalem to the forefront.

IMHO, this is why Hillary lost for sure. I watched in amazement as the electoral college results came it. Also, IMHO the God of Israel has purpose for President Donald Trump.

And the liberals have been pushing God out, booing God, booing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pushing the reprobate gay agenda (Romans) and pushing the murder of the unborn.

Weke up liberals - the game is on.

Alan, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Obama made it as bad as he could. Obama was always doing the work of his real father (John 8:44). Still is.

(the rare moment I agree with AD - been a couple of those lately - scary)

I hear you about Dershowitz, and yes, any defense of that racist murderer OJ was despicable. But Alan was just doing what lawyers who are hired to defend people do.

I met Dershowitz many years ago. One of my friends was a Harvard Law student, and we met for lunch in Harvard Square at a kosher deli Dershowitz once co-owned named Mavin’s.

Dershowitz was one of the most intelligent men I ever met. He could debate any subject with ease, shift gears on a dime, and his command of facts was breathtaking.

He is now out there defending Israel on the world’s stage. I believe that God is using him in that purpose.

But he’s still a far left liberal.

And yet he is to the right of the DNC at this point. That says a lot about the DNC and the Dem party.

I agree about the "devil's advocate" positions that the Dems have taken. They are against anything that "normalizes" (legitimizes) Trump, period. This will get interesting on DACA and infrastructure for sure. I bet Trump gets what he wants and they support it to get influence on the matter. But I guess we will see. Maybe they just vote no or call immigration reform and infrastructure spending "irresponsible". It's going to get fun!

The author's underlying point is flawed on two counts:

First, it is beyond the jurisdiction of the UN to tell a sovereign nation what it can and cannot recognize.

1. If it is beyond the jurisdiction of the UN to tell a sovereign nation what it can and cannot recognize, then does this mean that the original 1947 UN Mandate for the Partition of Palestine that led to the creation of the modern state of Israel was illegitimate? Should Israel still be considered a British colony right now?

2. The U.S. and Israel were both signatories to the Declaration of Principles (1993) and the Interim Agreement (1995) on Palestine. How can the UN's actions regarding Jerusalem be illegitimate when they reflect a standing agreement in which both the U.S. and Israel were parties themselves?

Recently a member of the Nobel Peace Prize committee suggested that obama should return his award.

They could do the democrat-acceptable thing and just abort it.

Liberals are playing with fire that will consume their souls literally if they don’t change.

I’d say it’s about time to get this party started.

Praying for Israel and her people!
