The United Nations general assembly has delivered a stinging rebuke to Donald Trump, voting by a huge majority to reject his unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The vote came after a redoubling of threats by Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, who said that Washington would remember which countries “disrespected” America by voting against it.
Despite the warning, 128 members voted on Thursday in favour of the resolution supporting the long-standing international consensus that the status of Jerusalem – which is claimed as a capital by both Israel and the Palestinians – can only be settled as an agreed final issue in a peace deal.
Although largely symbolic, the vote in emergency session of the world body had been the focus of days of furious diplomacy by both the Trump administration and Israel, including Trump’s threat to cut US funding to countries that did not back the US recognition.

22 of the 28 EU countries voted for the resolution including the UK, France, and Germany.
35 countries abstained including Canada and 5 EU countries.
Cut off all US aid to the EU and kick the UN out of NYC.
I don’t think we send aid to UK, France and Germany, but there are so many other things we could and should do. I am sick of our “friends.”

Perhaps Italy should move it’s capital to London, and Germany should move it’s capital to Paris.
Makes as much sense as demanding Israel share it’s capital.
It has a 3,000 year history with Jerusalem. If that isn’t enough, what would it take?

Aid to Egypt comes back first. I looked this all up yesterday and we send them a bit over one billion.

Israel: $3.1 billion. Egypt: $1.5 billion. Afghanistan: $1.1 billion. Jordan: $1.0 billion. Pakistan: $933 million.
Would pay for the wall, help reduce our debt, so many things. Homes for homeless vets in some major cities.

When DJT turns off the foreign aid faucets he will score another popular victory.
This resolution is just a toothless statement of opinion.
It is an opportunity to claw back some of our funding however, to use for other purposes.
I recommend giving everyone who voted against us (who takes money from us) a small budget cut. Then they will know that the threat is real, and we can use it again later, on something that really is important.
I remember back to the 60s when many of the nations in the Middle-East were anti-American and violently anti-Israel.
What we have managed to build today is a region where we have working relationships with most of those same nations.
No, they don’t see eye to eye with us on all issues. This is a good example of one of them.
While I do support Trump’s plan to hold nation’s to account, I think we need to be equally wise in implementation.
The goal needs to be to at least sustain relations or build them further, not destroy them.
Withdraw from NATO? Trump's been threatening that since the campaign. Maybe now is the time to do it?
Cut off their funding and evict these useless bums.
Having made the threat now Trump has to carry through with it, otherwise all future threats will be seen as hollow. He can’t retaliate against the UN - that’s just the venue. He has to retaliate against the individual countries. The question is how?
