‘Awash in guns’ — St. Louis leaders ask residents to hand in guns for cash
The Kansas City Star ^ | 12/23/17 | Kelsey Ryan

St. Louis city leaders hope that a program to give cash in exchange for guns Saturday will help curb the city’s increasing violence.

But experts say gun buybacks — while popular — are ineffective.

That doesn’t sway the St. Louis mayor.

“Frankly, if we get one, or two, or 10 guns off the street that would have been used in a serious crime, I will consider that a success,” Mayor Lyda Krewson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“There is not one thing that we can do that will solve this. We have to do a lot of different things on a lot of different levels. Gun buyback is just one of those things.”

St. Louis area residents handing guns over to authorities can get $200 for assault rifles and guns with a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds, $150 for shotguns and rifles, and $100 for handguns.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports hundreds of people have already turned out for the weekend buyback.

All guns must be unloaded when turned in, and the buyback is anonymous.

The buyback effort was announced by St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson and Department of Public Safety Director Jimmie Edwards earlier this month. The idea, they said, is to encourage the public to hand in guns they suspect could be used in a crime.

“I’m trying to reach good people that are willing to turn in guns that are perhaps in their homes unlawfully, good people like neighbors that have seen children walking the street with guns,” Edwards said.

As of Friday, St. Louis had 203 homicides this year — a 21-year high.

Describing a region “awash in guns,” Krewson urged city residents to report crimes.

“The level of violence in our city is at a crisis level,” Krewson said.

Maybe these moronic community “leaders” should ask the criminals to turn theirs in first?

I wionder if it has dawned on the Mayor that the problem is really gangs, drugs and a lawless underclass?

Guns are the tools used to commit violence. Remove guns and then knives become the ‘problem’.

Banlieue 13 may be the only answer....nothing else seems to have worked.

Nothing like low expectations! All they'll get off the streets is junk and guns owned by the law abiding.

If you apply the same liberal logic that is used on families who have lost a loved one due to an illegal alien (someone else would have killed them) then I guess another gun would have been used in a murder, right?

"But experts say gun buybacks — while popular — are ineffective."

There they go again with those popular media phrases that make no sense to the gun owner - e.g. "Common sense gun control"

We have an entire nation filled with many illiterates who for the most part control the airwaves and cable with this common sense nonsense.

What Are "Common Sense Solutions"? ,June 12, 2017

How can a political entity "BUY BACK" a gun when they never OWNED it in the first place? Riddle me that!!

Wonder what success they would have if they offered a dollar
incentive for information leading to the arrest and conviction
of criminals?

If the place is awash in guns, I shall proceed there posthaste with a sponge, a towel, and a bar of soap.

I wish to wash in guns.

That makes me wishy-washy.

This is an interesting implicit assumption to notice.

The gang that goes around calling itself liberal today, so sadly often isn’t liberal. It’s greedy. For control.

At the same time, there is much about America’s past Christian culture that present day conservatives are not conserving.

“Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.”

Most of the counties in the country are awash in guns without a problem. Only certain demographics have a problem with being awash in guns.

They will buy back piles of hunting rifles and .22 target rifles. (And who know that inner-city residents were so interested in deer hunting and target shooting?)

They should check the ballistics of any gun turned in that has a street value that's higher than the buyback price.

Useless feelgood waste of taxpayer's money.

The money was donated and most of the guns turned in were from pawnshop owners getting rid of junk that they couldn't sell for the amount they were given by the buyback program.

The money ran out quick. It's a pretty good racket!

I read about one buyback in Detroit where people were fastening a length of metal pipe to a block of wood and selling them back as shotguns. No questions asked!

Reading the hogwash that oozes outta the media (so-called) is what’s DEPLORABLE!

One would have to think there are few, if any out there w/the necessary means to “grok” the truth!

But, myself, I know there are Real American writers out there who grok it! And they publish cries for the truth constantly.

Unfortunately, their cries go mainly unheard, their responses to this situation still being beyond “pc” for most.
Everybody has their own level of pc! Notwithstanding what we read from the best of our leaders. No more pc? BS!
