I travel with a pistol. I sometimes travel with a shotgun - if I believe that weather or geography or other conditions mean being stranded away from people.

But to attend a public party with an AR15 is kinda strange. Don’t get me wrong, doing it with a 30-06 bolt action is too.

But I’ve traveled with the pistol and a shotgun before.

It’s pretty clear this guy was looking for action. If he couldn’t find it, it’s logical that he would create it. A fine job to the police department on this one !

Agreed. He was looking for trouble. Its the headline that conditions people to think if you have more than one gun and some ammo, its a “Arsenal” and you are looking for trouble. Next step after “conditioning” people with this form of thinking, is Asset Forfeiture.... like they do if you have 8K$ on you to buy a car, and get pulled over for a traffic infraction. Say by to the cash if they get their paws on it.

Nothing wrong with having an AR-15 in his truck as he travels, and to have kept the weapon with him at night.

A semi-auto rifle is handy to have if you come across a perp with a rifle, such as we've seen of a church shooting recently. Terrorists or thug perps having rifles can block traffic on a limited access highway.

There's nothing wrong with having an AR-15, you'd know that if you had any military or serious defensive training.

The wrong he committed was drinking while having those firearms in his possession, he should have been vigilant at all times.

Same here. Good assessment. I usually just travel with a handgun, but once upon a time about 20 years ago, I was buying a BMW bike 3 states away. The guy wanted cash only which was fine, but then he requested that I meet him at a warehouse to pick up the bike. My cousin went with me, When i asked my cousin to go on the trip and explained the details he said ok. When I picked him up, I asked if he was armed—he had a pistol on his ankle and one in his coat. We never had a problem and the 10K cash bought a very fine 1150RT.
