An Arizona Army National Guard unit will begin the New Year in Cuba. They're deploying to Guantanamo Bay for approximately nine months.

"There was some discussion some time back about actually shutting it down. Right now that's not what's going to happen so it's still very important for us service members to be prepared to go and continue that mission," said Arizona Army National Guard Command Sergeant Major Fidel Zamora.

That's exactly what nearly 50 Arizona Army National Guard soldiers will soon be doing. These soldiers leaving for Guantanamo Bay in the coming days in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Once there, they'll be on a joint task force helping to augment staff.

If you’ve got to be deployed then Cuba sure beats the middle east.

Yeah, the anecdotals about new building and staffing at GTMO is interesting. (Guess they’re not going to use those mystery vaults in the southern states, eh?)

Watched a video that says due to the “sensitive nature” of their assignment, no photos of them nor their names are going to be made available to the public (protect their families).

Please don’t flush any Qurans, or give the jihadis any atomic wedgies.

Might hurt their feelings.

I spoke to a source at Gitmo with a unique position to know ALL incoming and outgoing peeps. This is “not at all unusual,” he said, “military units are rotated in and out all the time, usually every 90 months.”

I asked again, “any high profile people come in.”

“Absolutely not. Pretty boring.”

“What about planes without transponders?”

“Nonsense. You think if we wanted to fly people in here we couldn’t do it without ANYONE knowing?”

Moreover, this MAGA individual found it silly that anyone would be transferring anyone to Gitmo: “the place is a quagmire because of legal issues.” “Khalid Sheik Mohammed STILL hasn’t received a trial, is still in pretrial motions.”

A second source @CarolRosenberg, who covers Gitmo on a daily basis for the Miami Herald, and whom this guy thinks is very good, also shows no unusual activity at all.

But.... How does that square with this quote from the article:

“This mission is so sensitive we were asked not to show the faces of these soldiers and their families.”

Is this level of secrecy always the case for GITMO deployments?

SOP for guards at any terrorist detention center.

Look, just believe what you want. I’m telling you I’m in contact with the Miami Herald reporter (whom you can follow) who covers Gitmo DAILY and with a person in a unique position to know every person who comes and goes.

It would help me if you could point to such secrecy SOP measures being undertaken in the past for GITMO.

There are rumors currently swirling about new uses for GITMO, as I’m sure you are aware.

I don’t do rumors. I do on the ground comments from people who know.
