Head of Iran Guards declares 'end of the sedition'

Iran's Revolutionary Guards chief announced the "end of the sedition" Wednesday as tens of thousands rallied in a show of strength for the country's Islamic rulers after days of deadly unrest.

General Mohammad Ali Jafari said the Guards only intervened "in a limited way" against fewer than 15,000 "trouble-makers" nationwide, adding that a large number had been arrested.

The White House declared it would seek new sanctions against those involved in the crackdown.

Protests over economic problems broke out in Iran's second city Mashhad last week and quickly spread across the country, turning against the regime as a whole.

A total of 21 people have died in the unrest, with protesters attacking government buildings and police stations in some areas.

"Today we can announce the end of the sedition," Jafari said, quoted on the Guards' website.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards chief announced the "end of the sedition" Wednesday...

That sounds rather ominous.

Unless they're "whistling past the graveyard".

This egg price revolt is now finished. No one wants 5 years in prison over egg prices. When these guys crack down, they crack down real hard. It was a fun fantasy but reality has set back in. Move on.

They’re either whistling or have committed mass murder, which the pro-Obama MSM would fail to report.

Usually, no news is good news. With Baghdad Bob, the cameras were there to expose the regime’s lies. Now they side with the regime. That’s obvious.

What they mean by 15,000 dissenters is that they believe that is how many that will have to be disappeared to frighten the others into stop rioting.

So most in Iran are totally cool with the whole islam thing? Back in 79 they kicked out the secular government of the Shah (yeah, he was no prize) and waltzed in these bearded bastards. If that’s the way they want to live then let them wallow in it. I was under the impression the people had had enough of that nonsense.

“This egg price revolt is now finished.”

...except for the 90 cities and towns that had demonstrations last night - the most yet, with the most total people out yet.

But except for them, I guess its over, if some guy says it is.

Revolutions start with 20-30% of the people. Most people are sheep.

It’s not over easy yet. The hard boiled Mullahs could care less about the peasants need for affordable eggs.

The Iranian internet will continue to be scrambled. Hopefully there is enough IT on the opposition side to poach a distribution router for Net access.

Kill them, sedition ends. Most of the articles I've read characterize the protests as blasphemy, not sedition. Wonder how you say sedition in Persian.

To: M Kehoe; All

It’s a lie about only 15,000 protesters. Video has shown at least that many in one city or another, and there were 80-100 cities involved.

A day or two ago there was a thread here on FR about several aircraft leaving a few cities in Iran and they had shut down their transponders and were headed for unknown destinations.

Speculation was that it was some of the hard liners getting out before they could be captured.

Wednesday night on Fox News there was a guy who was imprisoned for the 2009 protests for six years. (Didn’t catch how he made it to the US after release.) He suffered extreme torture and had many, many broken bones while in prison.
