K-12: Killing Democracy

Rudolf Flesch, in his 1955 book, noted that "things have changed in the last 10, 20 years. For the first time in history, American parents see their children getting less education than they got themselves. Their sons and daughters come home from school and they can't read the newspaper; they can't spell simple words like February or Wednesday; they don't know the difference between Austria and Australia. The fathers and mothers don't know the reason for this, but they know that something terrible has happened to their most precious dreams and aspirations[.]"

Isn't it beautiful – the way Flesch perceives the decline of American civilization from two tiny examples? Austria and Australia look alike. What's the big deal about telling them apart? Such casual imprecision is how students think today and is the essence of our problem. Flesch remains The Man in American education. Early on, he grasped the garish symptoms of the country's intellectual death spiral. A school system that doesn't teach children the difference between days of the week and months of the year? Well, there's little hope for it.

Even as the Education Establishment insisted that American children read, write, and spell better than ever, Flesch proved the absurdity of this claim. He saw the country's academic decline; he saw the intellectual fabric of the country start to unravel. "The American dream is, essentially, equal opportunity through free education for all. This dream is beginning to vanish in a country where the public schools are falling down on the job[.]"

Please read that three times. There should be symphonic accompaniment with big drums. The American dream is vanishing; equal opportunity through free education is fading. All of this was stated back in 1955, in Flesch's famous book, Why Johnny Can't Read.

I was born and raised in Germany and was educated in the German school system My favorite teacher was my first and second grade teacher who used to live right in the next house to the house my parents brothers, my twin sister and I lived.

My worst teacher was my 3rd grade teacher. Her pet was a girl who's mother always the teacher cakes and stuff like that. To reward the girl the teacher always gave her excellent and good grades. (In Germany you get graded by numbers. 1 is the best and 5 the worst. You get three or four fives and the other grades weren't so good either you had to repeat the class again.

Then when we were in the 6th grade that girl had to read something loud and we found out that she could hardly read. She read like some child that is just learning to read.

This is a constitutional representative REPUBLIC.

Democracy never lived here. EVER!!!!!!!

Democracy was DOA as our founders rejected it.

Does anyone know the pledge of allegiance?

Does it start off, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American, and to the Democracy it...”

NO!

We live in a Republic.

I am a Republican.

It’s the Democratic party that thinks it lives in a Democracy. It’s wrong about that too, in addition to everything else it believes!

Another descriptive term for "democracy" is "mob rule." Which explains why dems and leftists love it.

I don't like the Pledge of Alligiance." I prefer The Star Spangled Banner -- all four stanzas

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Socialist.

Who cares about any of this, the schools that my kids go to are FREE!!!! ...leaving me with tons of money to spend on important things like that boat, or that truck - oh lord, that truck is just so fine.

I get TOTALLY SICK of these people who claim that MY KIDS are getting screwed. Maybe they are, but what do I care - I can buy that TRUCK, oh lord, that truck - it is so MANLY! I’ll worry about my kids...later.

(typical FR response when told that their kids will be wondering derelicts for their entire adult lives if they [the parents] don’t take control of their education)

I don’t know verses 2, 3, & 4. I can’t agree with that. I can’t disagree either. I do literally love the first verse.

I appreciate you providing them. Honestly, I’m kind of tired and I don’t want to listen to it now. I apologize for that.

I have no problem at all with our Pledge of Allegiance.

Perhaps you can tell me which part of it you object to.

If a Leftist comes up with something that is reasoned, I won’t object.

We STILL refuse to take back our schools. Even now, under Trump, our last chance, we sleep collectively.

No brakes on MARXIST indoctrination anywhere in sight.

This is why my tagline hasn’t changed in years.

“It’s the Democratic party that thinks it lives in a Democracy.”

The Republican party is as inclusive in your description of democrats as is socialism....to the right or left.
