Uh oh. PA wants medical marijuana users to “dispose” of their guns

It’s a new year and medical marijuana is finding its way into the Keystone State. That’s not particularly remarkable since it’s a trend which has taken root in plenty of states around the nation. But Pennsylvania gun owners are now facing the same conundrum threatening to plague their fellow Second Amendment enthusiasts in other states where either medical or recreational pot has been legalized. The Pennsylvania State Police are telling everyone with both a firearm and a medical marijuana card to prepare to find a way to “dispose” of their guns. (CBS Pittsburgh)

Consumers of booze not affected? Because we all know that guns and booze mixed well can be a hoot. Right?

It would reduce the risk considerably more if they surrendered their driver’s licenses.

It’s the government. You can trust them.

Not that I expected stoners to think logically but during their constant harangues to legalize pot they never stopped to think that getting into bed with government always requires a cover charge.

Ohio’s ‘medical’ marijuana movement has been cronyism hiding in plain sight, with choosing ‘10-12 state sanctioned growers’ a golden opportunity for corruption now and in future.

I think their rationale is that marijuana is illegal under federal law. Booze isn’t illegal. But, all this will do is encourage medical marijuana users to get rid of their cards (or never get one) and just buy their pot on the street

Merely possessing the alcohol or MJ should not result in any action regarding your firearms rights.

Having a firearm on you while drunk or high would be a different matter.

That’s where the fine line is.

If you own firearms and also drink alcohol or smoke pot, how likely are the two to coincide?

Pennsy has the same problem NYS does. It’s major metro areas. We’d already scratched PA from our list of states we’d relocate to.

The Pennsylvania State Police obviously need a refresher in what the term “Pennsylvania State” means.

So what effects of pot is Pa. saying are incompatible with firearms? I thought pot was totally harmless.

It’s still a fed law that you cannot buy a gun in any state if you are a pot user, medical or otherwise. My understanding is a pot head can be legally required to surrender firearms.

Read your local crime blotters? Perps in them are often gun-toting drug addicts. But this move is still unconstitutional.

Begging the question, will this eventually include customers of “legal” recreational pot shops (CO/CA/MA/etc).

Liberal logic would hold that an arrest/summons for marijuana in Pennsy is also a 2A disqualifier.

Just found this, also from PA...interesting...

Can medical marijuana users have firearms? Police say no

And pay special attention to the last 2 paragraphs. Wow.

So, someone might not be honest on the 4473? But, but, but that’s a crime.

I don't see how that's even Constitutional myself. One doesn't surrender or give up their Second Amendment right if they're a drunk/alcoholic so why pot?

How is this even enforced, btw? If I have a medical marijuana card to legally buy pot in Illinois, how does the gun shop know? All they're concerned with is do I have a legit FOID card (I do...) and purchase done. So how is this un-Constitutional federal law enforced?

Well - there is a saying about not mixing gunpowder with alcohol......which reminds me of the time we did just that....

Tried to make a totally home-made (no kit) rocket with my uncle. We decided to use a slow burning mix of black powder we had made and needed a way to turn it into a 'solid" fuel so we mixed it with alcohol and poured it into the fuselage then stuck a pencil in the center to allow for an easier burn (probably where we went wrong the first time). Once it dried, we worked the pencil out and then inserted a plug with a tapered) hole as an exhaust vent (probably a second mistake).

Hot some Jetex wick for a fuse and took it to a local park.

Put a rod in the ground to accept the guide tube that would give it a straight start, Affixed the wick and lit it and got behind the tree we had chosen as cover - Dad and rest of family were about 50 yards away for a good view of the majestic flight we had envisioned.

Wick reached the exhaust port and after a small puff of smoke, there was a huge BANG and scattered debris. We checked it out and there was a hole about 5" deep with what remained of the exhaust port/plug embedded in the earth at the bottom, and nothing else that resembled any parts of the rocket.

Dad said there was a bright flame that shot up about 30' with a billow of smoke down low but no sign of anything moving up above the flame.

At any rate, we proved that one shouldn't mix alcohol and gunpowder....

I meant for you personally, if you are a gun owner and pot smoker/alcohol drinker.

Meaning Freepers in general.

Do you own guns/drink alcohol/smoke pot?

Have you ever had your pistol on you when drinking or smoking pot?

Hopefully the PA troopers just meant to warn gun owners that MJ is still illegal under federal law and to be wary of that possible land mine.
