If the GOP controls the government, why does Planned Parenthood still get federal funding?
Washington Examiner ^ | 1/8/18 | Nicole Russell

As Planned Parenthood smugly announced, via their 2016-17 annual report, they performed 321,384 abortions last year and received $543.7 million in taxpayer subsidies, primarily funneled through Medicaid.

It raises the question: When will the GOP get some grit and finally defund Planned Parenthood?

There is a myriad of reasons why Planned Parenthood should be defunded, and only one reason why they haven’t been. Following the Center for Medical Progress’ explosive undercover videos, Planned Parenthood has been under investigation by numerous committees, including the House Oversight Committee—which found Planned Parenthood needed no federal funds to operate and could function just as well on its own merits.

The Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation prompted them to refer Planned Parenthood to the FBI for investigation due to fetal tissue trafficking. When he referred them, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the committee said: “I don’t take lightly making a criminal referral. But, the seeming disregard for the law by these entities has been fueled by decades of utter failure by the Justice Department to enforce it. And, unless there is a renewed commitment by everyone involved against commercializing the trade in aborted fetal body parts for profit, then the problem is likely to continue.”

The Center for Medical Progress released several more additional videos this year, that shows Planned Parenthood not only worked with an independent third party, StemExpress, to procure aborted fetal tissue, but that they also purposely profited from the scheme. Between the FBI’s investigation, the previous committee investigations, and the independent investigations of CMP, this is ample reason to, at the least, withdraw federal funds from Planned Parenthood. They aren’t using what they’re receiving wisely and they clearly don’t need it. What’s the rub?
Not to mention, Planned Parenthood likes to feign like they don’t really do many abortions, but their latest annual report proves otherwise. Americans United for Life President and CEO Catherine Glenn Foster pointed out in a statement:

Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report demonstrates that the abortion giant’s bottom line is, as always, its ‘bottom line. Critical patient services such as prenatal care are dropping like a rock, while when it comes to abortion, Planned Parenthood continues to push aggressively to corner the market. Planned Parenthood locations are outnumbered by comprehensive, community-based health clinics 20 to 1, and its affiliates provide services to far less than 1% of the American population, with its client numbers dropping every year. This report demonstrates that truly, we can – and should – provide safe and holistic health care without Planned Parenthood.

The only reason Congress, which boasts a Republican majority, hasn’t defunded Planned Parenthood is because they lack the grit and fortitude they need to do so. There’s no reason, with the overwhelming, damning evidence against Planned Parenthood, that they shouldn’t be stripped of $500 million. If Congress can pass a tax bill, they can do this and they should this year.

Let Planned Parenthood bluster and fume — Congress still needs to do the right thing.

Because it was only 52-48 and now it’s 51-49. There are more than 3 pub senators who who are pro-choice and the filibuster rule means they some never have to admit it.

Over the last few weeks, McConnell has praised what Congress accomplished last year. In one instance he stated it would be hard to compete with last year, they did so much in 2017.

I nearly heaved my lunch. That rat bastard hasn’t got clue one what needs to be done. It was clear last year was his crowning achievement for the decade. No need to do more.

The Democrats are demonic, but our own leaders are criminally negligent if not worse.

Because Planned Parenthood manages to spend millions of dollars every election attacking pro life candidates.

Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger as a eugenics organization to control the population of minorities in this country.

Why would a political party dominated in Congress by white elected officials ever vote to strip them of their funding?

There is no “leftist lite”. The pretense of grey areas between the darkness and light has been shattered utterly. It was shattered way back in the 1960s, for those who had their eyes open.

Which part?

That the reason that we're still funding PP has anything to do with the number of GOP senators.

The house has the purse strings and the GOP has never really been serious about defunding PP. That's the real reason.

Nicole’s problem is a common one. She conflates Republican with conservative. RINO is actually meaningless. The purpose of the Republican party is to get into office and wield the levers of power, enriching themselves and, whenever it’s convenient, representing a constituency. If he’s in office, the he’s not republican in name only. He’s doing what they do.

Conservatism is a set of principles. Someone in office betraying these principles is more accurately labeled a CINO.

Every funding bill has to pass the senate and be signed by the potus.

It would never pass the senate. I’m betting it would get stripped in committee hearings.

_______________________________________

Assumes a false narrative.

The GOP controls the House. The GOP controls the Senate. The GOP controls the White House. The GOP controls the Supreme Court. The GOP controls the majority of State governments.

Having said all this - it is the Democrat Party that still controls the government.

Democrats don’t control the government. Most Republicans want PP funded.

Yeah, the large part of the GOP is Leftist Light. That simply means they wait (hide) in the wings while the Dems destroy the county. Later they come on stage and continue what the Dems have started. That’s all.

Cut off PP funding of abortions now, and in 16 years the knockout game will surge in popularity. Just sayin’
