Incoming Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) indicates that banning private gun sales in the state will be a priority for 2018.
In other words, he will continue to pursue the gun controls that outgoing Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) pursued but failed to secure.
NBC Washington reports that Northam will be pushing “universal background checks for gun buyers.” This means private gun sales will be treated like retail sales, with a point-of-sale background checks required at time of purchase. Such a framework will require a law-abiding gun owner to seek out a government representative, a federal firearms license holder, and have a background check performed before he sells a gun to his neighbor, co-worker, lifelong friend, or acquaintance.
Other states that have outlawed private gun sales charge a fee for the required background checks. That fee effectively serves as a new tax on the gun sale or transfer, thereby driving the price of firearms up.

This goes all the way back to a primary where a not-so-conservative was allowed to advance to the fall election.
We have to stop voting for the moderate elites, they can not win elections.

I have suspected he is a dipsh!t - now I KNOW he is a dipsh!t.
We need to demand measurements that politicians will let us use to determine “success”. This policy by itself does nothing (unless he’s just against private sales of ANYTHING). What social consequences would be a meaningful success measurement to him?
For example, would he claim success if
- MS-13 kills less than 50 people with a privately-purchased gun
or if
- Hunters kill less than 50 animals with a privately-purchased gun
These are only 2 of many possibilities. He may want to use another one that will let us understand what he’s trying to accomplish and then let us determine if he succeeded.
