Grassroots support for Jeanne Ives’ gubernatorial bid continues to grow. Today, she adds the backing of the Wheeling Township Republican Organization (WTRO). Ninety percent (90%) of WTRO’s precinct captains voted to endorse Ives over incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner. Wheeling Township is a Republican stronghold. In 2014, more Republican primary votes were cast in Wheeling Township than in 89 of Illinois’ 102 counties.

The worst Republican governor in America (according to the National Review) is in trouble with the Republican party base. Another endorsement session goes for his challenger.

What’s worse: Rauner losing or Darrel Issa quitting?

Issa quit because he saw the writing on the wall. He barely won in 16, certain loss in 18.

Hate to break it to you, but odds of a more conservative republican winning a gerbneral election in IL for governor is highly unlikely.

The only thing Rauner accomplished is beating Pat Quinn.

The Illinois Republican Party will make damned sure of it.

Issa hasn’t actually quit. He’s going to run in the adjacent district where he has a chance of winning now that Ed Royce, the current incumbent in that district has decided to call it quits.

Some here, seem to prefer Lisa Madigan?

Hopefully REPUBLICANS and LIBERTARIANS who thought RAUNER was answer to their financial woes have learned their lesson. It takes a moral leader to be a great leader. RAUNER passed every abominable bill that came his way.

Lisa Madigan is not a candidate during this election cycle. She is leaving office.

At this point

Rauner is DOA

Rauner screwed the base that elected him as a pho-republican and the democrats have their own candidates.

Rauners winning issue is redistricting but he has frittered away any trust his base had in him.

If Rauner wins the primary he will just go on to get Quinn'd by whats left of the Republican party that hasn't been able to escape Illinois.

Jeanne probably can't win but that Rauner dog don't hunt no more in Illinois.

Madigan jr. may have been the best of the lot.
We could easily end up with Moose 0bama.
Fortunately, it also jumped out.

So you're saying we should just give up then, throw in the towel?

Even if Ives does lose, she still gave IL voters a contrast. Now the people who keep voting for Rats will continue to get the government they deserve.

That's why IL and CA are blue state hellholes, because so many Republican Governors were me-too liberals.

No. I’m saying you have to put forth someone who can win even if they aren’t as pure as you like... refusing to accept that reality just leads to one party rule.

If I take a republican who would win in a cakewalk in Arkansas has no shot in IL.. and likewise a democrat who would cakewalk in IL have no shot in Arkansas.

You expect to put forward someone who has no shot at winning because their stand matches yours but not 70% of the rest of the electorate, you can enjoy never having any say at all.

Did Raune do anything to further the cause? A profile in Courage statement that did nothing?

Ummm, last time I checked, Rauner has a 30% approval rating, and is the LEAST popular Republican Governor running for re-election in the U.S. right now.

So how the hell is re-nominating him and his awful record "putting forth someone who can"?

Might be neither of them can win but I plan to vote for Ives unless polling indicates Rauner is appreciatively more likely to win in November.

I didn’t see it but I heard she cleaned his clock in the debate.

I have my doubts about how well Ives would play statewide, but Rauner supporters are trying to tout him as the "electable" candidate when his approval rating is in the toilet. That's a joke.

Putting ideology aside and just looking at electablity, re-nominating Rauner is a bigger risk than running Ives. She's fairly unknown wheres Rauner has alienated people in droves, across the political spectrum.

I've seen excerpts from the Tribune 'debate' (more of a joint sit down interview with both candidates). I thought Ives came across as a bit pushy and rude but from what I saw she did FAR better than Rauner in making a convincing argument and being knowledgeable about the issues. He was pretty much on autopilot and kept repeating the same meaningless platitudes from 2014 ("Illinois is broken"..."We need to fight for term limits", "We need strong leadership in this state"... blah blah blah) like a broken record, and she called him on it. He also had the Joe Biden habit of breaking into an annoying grin when it was clear he didn't have a response to facts he didn't like. No wonder he doesn't want to debate her in an actual debate.

Of course, knowing the "conservative" Tribune as I do, I'd be shocked if they backed a conservative challenger over a "moderate" incumbent, regardless of the fact her presentation was 10X better.
