During the Obama administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement was not following proper procedures when checking if illegal aliens were known terrorists, jeopardizing national security, according to an audit.
The office of inspector general found that between 2013 and 2015, ICE was not screening illegal immigrants who had been released for terrorist ties. Every single case of a suspected terrorist reviewed by the inspector general included errors.
"ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) faces challenges in implementing the Known or Suspected Terrorist Encounter Protocol (KSTEP) screening process, which is used to identify aliens who may be known or suspected terrorists," the inspector general said. "Although ERO uses KSTEP to screen all aliens who are in ICE custody, ERO policy does not require continued screening of the approximately 2.37 million aliens when released and under ICE supervision."
Between 2013 and 2015 there were 142 cases of illegal immigrants who were detained and identified as "known or suspected terrorists." The inspector general reviewed 40 of those cases.
"All 40 files had at least one instance of noncompliance with KSTEP policy, generating greater concerns regarding the population of aliens screened and determined to have no connections to terrorism," the inspector general said.
In addition to not following security protocols, the majority of ICE field offices do not have access to the Department of Homeland Security's classified networks, which enables them to "communicate about derogatory information related to known or suspected terrorists."
"As a result, ERO may be missing opportunities to identify, take into custody, communicate status of, and make decisions on those aliens who pose the highest risk to national security and public safety," the inspector general said.
Of the 40 cases reviewed under the audit, nearly half were missing required background checks while the illegal alien was detained.

Do you know who in Homeland Security heads up ICE?? I know Obama planted several Muslims in DHS and it seems I read one of them was the one who controled ICE. If so, that would answer several questions about how things are so screwed up. I hope they are all gone by now.

What he doesn't understand is that to be truly ‘progressive’, and for humanity to be more than it has been, requires moving beyond hatred - and understanding that all of us are guilty of being less than we can be. Slavery in America was immoral and terrible, without the slightest doubt, but it was, unfortunately, but one immoral human act in a history replete with cruelty and immoral acts - and none of our ancestors are without sin.
His ‘transformation’ reeks of ‘payback’, and payback can never truly happen - because the guilty are almost never the targets of payback. The purveyors of slavery are all dead. Those whose families benefitted are so many generations beyond that time that to hold them accountable at this point is ludicrous and unjust. The rest of us have no connection to that past.
My point is that he is too shallow and motivated by hate to be able to do what is best - moving on together.
Excellent analysis. A comment about “The purveyors of slavery are all dead.” That is true for slavery as we knew it in America (where I have ancestors on both sides). But today there are almost 25 million people suffering in slavery worldwide - mainly in forced labor. That is more than America held 6 generations ago.
If progressives like Hussein cared about their plight the last place they would want to “transform” is our country. Hussein is a radical ideologue that hates America as founded.
