Beijing hits back at US defense strategy and ‘Cold War mindset'

Beijing and Moscow have criticised the US military’s move to put countering China and Russia at the centre of its latest national defence strategy, with China again hitting back at America’s “cold war and zero-sum game mindset”.

Presenting the new strategy – which will set priorities for the Pentagon for years to come – Defence Secretary Jim Mattis on Friday called China and Russia “revisionist powers” that “seek to create a world consistent with their authoritarian models”.

It marks a shift in US defence priorities after its focus for more than a decade-and-a-half on the fight against Islamist militants.

The defence strategy is the latest indication of hardening resolve by President Donald Trump’s administration to address challenges from Russia and China, at the same time he is pushing for improved ties with Moscow and Beijing to rein in a nuclear North Korea.

China’s embassy in the United States criticised the strategy, saying Beijing sought “global partnership, not global dominance”.

Responding to the defence strategy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking through an interpreter at a news conference at the United Nations, said the US was using a confrontational approach.

China watchers also drew parallels with the cold war era.

“While the US sees China and Russia as becoming increasingly assertive, China and Russia have much the same view of the US."

But Shi noted that relations today between the US, China and Russia could not be compared to the decades following the second world war. “Back then, the geographic front line of the cold war was very clear,” he said. “But now it is very ambiguous due to the growing ties countries have with each other, and the US allies in Asia are not as clear.”

Well ain't that the truth! *sarc*

“But now it is very ambiguous due to the growing ties countries have with each other, and the US allies in Asia are not as clear.”

China's grip on Southeast and East Asia is tenuous, and they're increasingly heading toward a collision course of interests with India. So, that's what US diplomacy will be about next few years will be about. Solidifying alliances. And assuring we deal and negotiate with China and Russia with the upper hand, from a position of STRENGTH.

They laid the keels for eight cruisers this year. The US laid down...none.

China and Russia are held together right now by the common desire to diminish American hegemony.

But economically, China gets a lot more out of working with us and quite frankly, they are more dependent on us than we on them even with all the ridiculous “sellout” behavior of our elites to China in recent years.

Chinese needs/wants America far more than they need Russia - which doesn’t have a whole lot to offer in economically as they do them. Chinese economy is several times bigger than theirs.

In the long run, Russia is nervous about Chinese taking over the Far East part of the country. There are already trickling in and investing/staking claim...

My prior post was typo-ridden: basically 1) China needs America more than we need them. 2) China definitely gets more out of a relationship with us than with Russia, which is economically weaker. 3) And finally:
