Chuck Schumer started a government shutdown he couldn’t finish.
The New York Democrat, among the shrewdest operators in national politics, stumbled badly because he succumbed to the siren song of the anti-Trump Resistance. He believed any charge could be made to stick to President Trump, no matter how implausible, and chose the dictates of an inflamed Democratic base over common sense.
His embarrassing climbdown after a short, mostly weekend shutdown shows the limits of the Resistance. Yes, an anti-Trump midterm wave appears to be building and Democratic activists — marching in the streets by the thousands and badgering Republicans at town-hall meetings — are energized. But this doesn’t mean that Democrats can act with impunity as long as they are fighting under an anti-Trump banner.
Schumer sought to attach an extraneous matter, an amnesty for so-called Dreamers, on a must-pass government funding bill and when Democrats inevitably didn’t get what they wanted, blame Trump for the ensuing government shutdown. This effort depended on gravity-defying spin that proved sustainable for less than three days.

The vanquishing of Hillary doesn’t mean the Dems have stopped living their lives according to polling. The polling must have been AWFUL for them to abort the shutdown this quickly ie they discovered quickly that their love for illegals is not shared by the voters regardless of party registration.
Schumer is a tool..................they used him and now he’s a known loser................
Ordinary working stiffs who vote Democrat know that unrestricted immigration does them no good even if the DNC salivates over all those new Democrat voters surging across the border.
UpChuckie has yet to learn Antifa is not the alternative to Republicans.
Both major parties have the same problem when it comes to illegal immigration: Doing the will of their donors antagonizes their voters.

I think this CR was only for a few weeks, so Schumer will have plenty of opportunitie to keep doing this BS over and over and over.
He lost because the Left believes that government spending is more critical to sustain life than the air we breathe.
You and I would ride out a shutdown of many months.
The Left, not so much.
We were on the verge of proving how unnecessary so much of government really is. They couldn’t have THAT now, could they?

I hope she got enough reminders that she called chief clown Chuckie and told him he needed to take the bullet for “team Democrat” and end this mess they started.
Pity those ungodly, truth denying, agitating leftists. This life is the only ‘heaven’ they will ever experience for eternity unless they turn from the darkness to the Light.

Maybe he and GHWB ("read my lips") can go out drinking together and drown their sorrows. Kindred spirits, and all that.
Mitch McConnell doesn’t have a lot of friends here, but adding the children’s health funding to this short-term spending bill was a brilliant political move. It was like handing a bunch of clubs to the Democrats and then running the TV cameras while they used them to beat kittens and baby seals to death.
Schumer made the mistake of trying to stand toe-to-toe with Donald Trump. Trump humiliated Schumer and now he’s making fun of him for it. It gives me great satisfaction to see Trump successfully use Saul Alinsky’s tactics against a left winger. Ridicule can be a powerful weapon.
I think they misread numbers for depth of sentiment.
I’ve seen some decent polling that indicates a majority of Americans think the ‘dreamers’ at least deserve the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how some of us here feel regarding an absolutely hardcore ‘send ‘em all back’ approach.
But just because a lot of people think they should be allowed to stay doesn’t mean that those same people think it’s an issue worth shutting down the government for. as often, the most hardcore voices are the loudest, but not necessarily a majority.
The quickest way to guarantee no shut down would be to pay the military and cut off welfare and food stamps instead.
