It started with a cold, and then it turned deadly.
The grieving family of Dylan Winnik of West Palm Beach, Fla. is in shock after their 12-year old son died Tuesday from complications related to the flu.
Dylan’s family said cold symptoms developed just a day after the seventh-grader was playing at a birthday party on Sunday, according to a report from Local10 News. By Tuesday, his condition worsened and a neighbor called 911. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the home, Dylan already had died.
Family member Mike Medwi told the Palm Beach Post that the boy had not gotten a flu shot.

The takeaway here is when you or one of your loved ones starts to show these symptoms and you/they start to have extreme symptoms then get to the hospital.
Also, don’t pay attention to EMT/paramedics who might pooh-pooh your feelings...at least two people have died now because they listened to paramedics and ignored their symptoms.
I’m retired and lucky to be able to hole up for periods of time if an epidemic like this breaks out.

I got it this year and it was horrible, It seemed more like strep throat , fever, chills and pain in throat hard to swallow then it moved into lungs like pneumonia . It was so bad I went to urgent care when it first started to get a swab for streptococcus because of white patches in throat, but they said it was Flu.
Some poor kid just died of streptococcus after getting stitches in his knee after falling, evidently the hospital killed him by poor houskeeping /sterilization proceedures

Here on the west coast of FL, my older son’s private high school is shutting down tomorrow because over 20 percent of the students are out with the flu. They are having a company come in and spend the three day weekend disinfecting everything.

I agree, but I have heard horror stories about Emergency Rooms packed with sick people. It’s a very bad situation.
I know people who did get the flu shot and still had a horrible case of the flu.
The flu shot is barely effective this year and the same last year.
Medical malpractice is third leading cause of death in the US.
What’s a hospital going to do for you except add some super-bacteria to your plight?
Because I only work for my best friend who is a contractor, with the same guys always on the crew-and in a rural area, I’m similarly able to avoid strangers, city people, etc. But I won’t go to my guy’s place in the city until flu season is over-and if he has been working in the city rather than a small town, I don’t let him come out here to my place unless he’s been free of symptoms of anything for 2-3 days-one of the reasons I live in BFE-I can stay away from strangers and vectors-like kids-most kids who live out here out here are homeschooled...
A few years ago when we had another flu epidemic, probably not as bad as this one. One of the Freepers suggested NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) and I have been taking it ever since. About a small tsp of NAC and about 1 + 1/2 tsp of calcium ascorbate (C) and it has been working like a charm. There is plenty of info available about NAC and what it can do for you.

I got the flu shot last year, and still got bird flu (Influenza A). On the bright side, I haven’t been sick for over 6 months and haven’t got the flu this year.
According to one doctor I read, the FLU shot is a scam. It is NEVER effective and it NEVER has the right strain.
If you want to hurt your immune system, get a flu shot.
