I couldn’t help noticing the juxtiposition of two words -—good will—in the statement. I hope the U.S. Congress will also notice that after spending billions of our treasure to created a climate of ‘good will’ in the peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis and between the Palestinians and the American people, nothing good has come of it.
We might want to redirect some of the money to the humanitarian policy of rescuing the remaining Jews in Muslim countries where they are still persecuted. They could be resettled in Israel.
Following the 6 day war I was asked to take a position with an NGO in the Gaza Strip. Egypt had just lost the Strip to Israel, but UNRWA, which had long worked in Gaza, was going to be given more power. I soon learned that the UNRWA operation was corrupt from top to bottom and that for years US funds had been money down a rathole. Fortunately, I backed out, but UNRWA did not. For more than a half-century the USA has been supporting that miserable operation. It’s time to close it out. Had UNRWA not been present in Palestine it is likely that there would be no “refugees.” They would have found work in the Middle East, or they would have blended into the West Bank and Gaza.
Well, that’s nice. It sounds like everybody agrees on the Not A Dime policy. I love it when diplomatic efforts come to a consensus.
