Donald Trump is teaching Republicans how to fight
nypost ^

It’s an observation so strikingly true that you wonder why you didn’t think of it earlier. “Donald Trump,” a friend said the other day, “is teaching the Republican Party how to fight and how to win.”

The evidence is everywhere every day, and it was on vivid display Tuesday night. The president remains in a fighting mood, determined to keep punching his way forward.

The Trump way starts with the passage of the historic tax cuts despite tiny Republican majorities in Congress and scare tactics from the left. Before passage, polls showed the public was strongly opposed — but Trump pulled, pushed and bullied his party over the finish line.

The roaring results, with millions of workers already getting bonuses, pension boosts and pay hikes, vindicate his determination.

Another piece of evidence is that the government shutdown over the “Dreamers” was a huge defeat for Democrats, and Trump piled on the pain with a blistering ad about crimes by illegal immigrants that helped force divided Dems back to work.

The decision by the House intelligence panel to write and release its memo on possible FBI misdeeds is yet more evidence of a new fighting spirit. Even Speaker Paul Ryan, averse to conflict by temperament and training, forcefully supported the memo’s release, saying it was time to “cleanse” the FBI.

He’s also showing them what it’s like to actually work and accomplish something.

He makes strength look easy.

It takes a big ego, lots of personal security. It doesn’t take narcissism. It takes actually loving and believing in YOURSELF and YOUR IDEAS. (It probably takes believing in a benevolent Creator who wants us to do Good as well.)

The people who hate him don’t understand.

There are only two cojones in the Republican Party.
Trump owns both.
Do not worry, dimbulbcrats. Our spineless no-T Rino-Ublicans will continue their tradition of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

And I truly hope that my above statements are proved to be stunningly incorrect.

Teaching Republicans to fight will be his toughest challenge as president. Reagan wrote a good playbook for Republicans too, but they promptly threw it away.

Its called purpose, conviction and resolve, all of which are necessary factors for success. Republicans seem to have a mental block to understanding this.

We finally have a Republican who isn’t cowering under cries of “racist” “homophobe” or “Xenophobe”, that’s huge. He’s not allowing the media and libs to dictate to the public who he is..

teaching the Republican Party how to fight and how to win

Paul Ryan looked like he was ready to fight; McConnell looked like he's ready to cave.

And after watching last night I don't think Trump will sign any immigration bill that doesn't include the wall.

More accurate I think, to say he’s building a new party with the same name that knows how to fight, win, etc. Some “Republicans” like Flake, McCain, Graham, Romney, and more will never be a part of it. Their kind of Republican party is dead.

You can say that again!

Unfortunately, we are going to have to root every last Republican out of Congress. It is surgically impossible to implant a spine into the invertebrates who presently occupy the House and Senate.

That's pretty funny right there. Perhaps we should be honest here: politicians are opportunists. Now, I'm well aware of the pejorative connotation. However, realistically, they are *supposed* to reflect the demands of their base. And when their base is benefiting from Trump's economic policies, and by association approving of Trump himself, then those in congress better get on board.

That's what we saw last night, and what is reflected this morning by various commenters, pundits and associated media figures. These people aren't stupid - the smart ones (ie "unprincipled") - always test the waters first. And now we see the movement to embrace the power figure.

And that’s why he can offer what he offered on DACA. He knows the Dems won’t give on the wall, chain migration and the visa lottery. When it all falls apart, he can look at the Dreamers and say “I offered to legalize you and they refused.”

They [Dems] rarely stood and applauded, except when it would have been embarrassing not to.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Wrongo. I watched the SOTU & my observation was they didn’t even stand/applaud when it was un-American not to, much less merely ‘embarrassing’. Their hate of Trump transcends everything, including what is good for the people of America. The Dems made that very clear last night and Trump supporters weren’t the only ones who noticed.

This is a correct analysis. Republicans especially the elitist and hereditary GOP have in the past been largely content to taking a beating from the left and never open fire with anything but pop guns. Just this morning I read another lame piece from Jonah Goldberg who is moderately never Trump which tried to straddle the line while missing the entire point of the push back against the FBI. Instead he tried to minimize it. The importance of pushback when your enemies are making unfounded allegations is to give the independent observer not just the committed member of your base a reason to doubt the words of your enemy or at a minimum confuse them enough to make sure they see it as a pox on both houses.

Democrats always lead with mad assertions to demonize and silence their opponents. There opponents aren’t just wrong but instead they are bigots, racists, nazis all the while the left are indeed marxists praising communist dictators. The GOP have never been good at wielding their rhetorical heavy weapons and the left though a great big turd of a target have gotten used to a GOP that always gives in. This is one of the reasons they scream so loudly at President Trump. They are used to being able to just make shit up attacking and never expect a real painful return attack. President Trump is teaching the GOP to go for the kill and that is one of the most valuable things he’s done for conservatives and Republicans.

Gasp, just reread my above post. I do nope that the Repubs unite behind Trump, but did not mean that I hope that Trump loses his cojones. After all, those were the cojones that beat the obamastuff out of the Hitlerbeast.

I still maintain that a key reason for Trump-hatred on both sides of the aisle “He’s not one of us”. He did not pay his party dues, get in line and wait his turn. Professional politicians see that as a threat to their very existence. TERM LIMITS, NOW AND FOREVER!
