I think you’ve diagnosed the condition.
I watched a good bit of the speech live. It didn’t appear to be particularly URGENT to me. I thought it was a well presented speech - measured but enthusiastic.

Yes...it’s all hype in order to get the viewer in a certain frame of mind going in...... So much now is ‘thought’ manipulation because people have lost or failed to acquire critical thinking skills, they just go with the flow.
Then we have recently noted a vast change in twitter and other fast moving site/posts that are just loaded with nothing informative, rather full of one liners just spewing whatever the popular chant is.....”Russia” is blamed now for everything in our government investigations....and every person is a Russian Agent!
Have to say over the last couple days I haven't seen the GOP members smiling so much nor so confident. I do think Trump has won over those who were uncertain how he would govern.....so he IS uniting the party I have no doubt.
As for the Dems....truly Pelosi and Shulmer, Durbin and the like , who have controlled for decades will NEVER give an inch if they think they can't come out smelling like a rose....they're STILL operating with outdated maneuvers and it shows.

I think the president could seriously blow some minds if he offered to speak at the democrats’ annual retreat. They probably would not accept, but they would make them appear even more partisan and closed-minded than they do now.
