Charges for man who sold Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock ammunition

An Arizona man, previously identified as a person of interest in the Las Vegas shooting investigation, was charged by authorities Friday for manufacturing and selling armor-piercing bullets without having a proper license, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.

Fingerprints belonging to Douglas Haig, 55, were found by investigators on a stash of unused armor-piercing ammo in the Mandalay Bay hotel room from which Stephen Paddock launched his bloody Oct. 1 assault, the documents said. It wasn’t noted if the bullets were the type used in the attack.

Paddock, the lone gunman in the shooting, fired a stream of bullets into a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Shooting from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Paddock killed 58 people and wounded more than 500. The massacre is considered to be the worst mass shooting in modern American history.

During a Friday news conference, Haig, who works as an aerospace engineer and has sold ammunition as a hobby for the last 25 years, said he didn't notice anything suspicious when he sold Paddock the bullets. Haig reportedly met Paddock at a gun show in Phoenix weeks before the shooting occurred.

Haig said he ultimately sold Paddock 720 rounds of ammunition.

"I had no contribution to what Paddock did," Haig said. "I had no way to see into his mind."

When Haig didn’t have the total amount of tracer ammunition Paddock was interested in, the pair reportedly set up a sale a few days later at the dealer’s home. The load of bullets was packed into a box, which contained Haig’s name and address on it. The box was later found in the hotel room which investigators searched after the deadly shooting.

Well, I guess when you have a Special Ops operation go south, you need a scapegoat...

Man, this whole situation just stinks to high Heaven. Something BIG is being covered up, IMHO.

It’s not your opinion, something big is most definitely being covered up.

Agree.

How can the ammo salesman be guilty of anything? I am assuming that there was nothing illegal about the ammo, that it was a legal sale.

You need a license to manufacture ammo for sale. If this guy didn’t have it, he may be in trouble.

He may also be the latest in a long line of FBI fall guys

Sounds like he sold legal tracer ammo to Paddock, but then the charged him with manufacturing armor piercing ammo. Typical poor excuse of a journalistic effort.

Notice how they make the point of “the lone shooter”?.
Well there ya go, an example of a “news” agency deliberately conflating two entirely separate types of ammo to confuse the sheeple and advance an agenda.
Tracer bullets are NOT armor piercing just by the fact they are tracers and tracer ammo as far as I know is not illegal. And “armor piercing ammo is not tracer ammo. AND the only bullets I remember being outlawed a few years ago were the Black Talon or some such bullets. I could be wrong however. And BTW pretty much any rifle round will penetrate body armor.

Hello, brother...

So, then, naturally, it would follow that the next time one of Mohammed’s Religion of Pieces foot soldiers runs amok on a crowded sidewalk with a Ford or a Chevy or - Heaven forbid - a BUICK - then the Ford or GM dealership should be charged for selling him the car (or SUV [gasp, no])...

Because, like, Achmed would NEVER have done something like that unless the car or SUV [gasp, NO!} made him do it...

Libs truly are sick in the head.

I caught that. The FBI has a narrative to protect.

This is what you get when you have "News Readers" who don't know a damn thing about the subject they are commenting on.

All of this ammo can be bought online from any reputable ammo company. Usually it is an overrun of production to fill Gov contracts.

Yahoo, and Liberals thinks armor piercing ammo would penetrate and M1 tank.

Any ole ammo is good enough if I shoot you in the face with it.

If gun owners were as dangerous as Liberals claim, we would have shot all the Liberals by now !

The sale and ammo was legal. The problem is he wasn’t just providing them, he was manufacturing them. Manufacturing was the no-no.
