‘Delegitimizing’ Mueller? Don’t Blame the Nunes Memo
National Review ^ | 2/7/2018 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 02/08/2018 8:08:48 AM PST by Rumierules

The FBI and Justice Department hyped Trump–Russia collusion. Rod Rosenstein can right that wrong. The most bitter dispute over the Nunes memo involves Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. This might seem odd since the memo, published last week by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee chaired by Devin Nunes (R. Calif.), does not address the Mueller investigation. Rather, it homes in on potential abuses of foreign-intelligence-collection authorities by Obama-era Justice Department and FBI officials, said to have occurred many months before Mueller was appointed.

McCarthy states that Rosenstein had no basis for the assignment of a special counsel to conduct a counterintelligence investigation.

But his proposed solution is for Rosenstein to essentially reframe or describe the investigation differently?

If Mueller was the wrong man (a prosecutor) for the job (counterintelligence), wouldn’t Rosenstein’s proper remedial action be to terminate Mueller not just redefine his duties?

The inside-the-beltway establishment is still clinging to the thin reed that Mueller will find something—anything—that can be used to bring down Trump.

The FBI and Justice Department hyped Trump–Russia collusion.

The FBI and Justice Department hyped Trump–Russia collusion, which is astounding given the monumental volume of evidence of Clinton-Russia collusion!

Why are they not focusing on using our tax dollars on REAL collusion?

If someone looks hard enough they can find or invent something. This entire investigation has hurt the country.
Is it a fund raising tool? When people do not tell the truth, there is no longer any trust in what is said. When people are not punished for crimes, there is deep resentment toward law enforcement. This is all political.

Rosenstein is an active part of the coup to destroy Trump, and Sessions is backing RR all the way.

Just the thought of appointing Bob Muller, the Obama/Clinton Uranium Bagman (while serving as Director of the FBI) to look into collusion with Russia by anyone, is mind blowing!

Rosenstein helped create the criminal activity.

What is Andrew talking about when he says Rosenstein can
correct the wrong.

If Rosenstein wants to correct the wrong, he can resign and turn
himself over to the nearest Grand Jury.

It appears that Mueller fired Page and Strzok not after HE found out what they were up to but after Congress found out. Makes a big difference.

It isn't mind blowing to think that Rosenstein might have appointed Mueller into a somewhat protected (i.e., independent) position to provide him a modicum of cover (i.e., a shield of sorts) from claims of U1 or other improprieties.

Mueller, by his own actions, and his choice of “investigators” have delegitimized himself, and his witch hunt.

Which makes me wonder what actually was said when Mueller went to the White House. I believe Trump has been aware of all of this and is letting it play out as he has the drop on all of the players.

The problem with mccarthy is he is a defender of the institution of the DOJ and is unable to admit it needs to be destroyed and rebuilt from the ground up.

>>Mueller fired Page and Strzok

He didn’t fire them really. He just removed them from his special team, and sent them back to their regular jobs.

Muller always was, and always will be a ‘clean up’ guy. He steps in when things need cleaned. And by cleaned, I mean hidden from all oversight. He’ll threaten, hide, bury evidence, and muddle things up to a point that no one can tell wtf is going on. That’s how he see’s his job. And he’s really good at his job.

Bottom line: The FBI and Justice Department should always resist acknowledging that an investigation is under way. Even when the fact of an investigation is unavoidably public...

"...always resist acknowledging that an investigation is under way"??

Wrong. If there is credible public evidence of a crime, then the FBI and Justice Department should announce that there is an investigation.

For example if there is a public bank robbery, then there should be an announcement of an investigation.

If there is credible public evidence that Hillary had an illegal classified email server, then there should be an announcement of an investigation.

The public has the right to know if they are being served by their FBI and DOJ.

Mueller, Rosenstein and even Sessions are all protected. All three, if fired, would trigger an obstruction charge and an impeach cry, from the media and from many in Congress. Thus, for now, they still have their jobs.

And all three, while they still have their jobs, prevent the Deep State, including themselves, from being prosecuted. They are the prosecutors.

It's quite gambit they've set up.

If you look at the dueling investigations as a battle between team Trump and the Deep State, here is how it is set out:

Team Trump: Congress and the IG, Horowitz, have uncovered and continue uncover unprecedented abuses by the DOJ/FBI and State Dept. The facts are undeniable but the media denies them anyway. There is no one in a position actually prosecute the criminals.

Deep State: Mueller is positioned and willing to prosecute. An inconvenient circumstance for him is that he has no facts to support such a prosecution. But he is willing to create a set of facts, if at all possible, to support an obstruction charge. Admittedly, such a prosecution or recommendation for impeachment might look petty given the avalanche of facts uncovered by Team Trump.

What probably happens: a truce. No real reform and no significant prosecutions, certainly not by Team Trump. (Deep State will probably back off sentencing Flynn since inconvenient facts would be exposed at trial).

Such a "truce" is really a big victory for the Deep State.

Rosenstein will not be part of any solution, he was part of a plot to install Mueller so Mueller could have an open-ended investigation and take down Trump for something, even if it has to be made up. It will only end when Rosenstein is fired or prosecuted, and Mueller is investigated for his role in U1.
