White House tell agencies to prepare for shutdown as Rand Paul holds up key vote

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is preventing a two-year budget deal from passing, as the White House advised federal agencies to prepare for the government to start shutting down at midnight.

Congressional negotiators were scrambling earlier Thursday to lock in enough votes in the House, and that was before Paul, a Republican, made public his dissatisfaction with the deal, which would raise government spending, avert a government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling.

A senior administrative official said the White House is instructing agencies to begin shutdown preparations in the event that Congress fails to pass a budget before the midnight deadline.

I like Rand Paul a lot, and I get his point here. But given all that is going on, his timing is off a hair. IMHO.

If the choice is 5ks deal or a shutdown, let her shut down. Rand Paul is right. I’m so sick of these hypocritical RINOs.

Putting the screws to Paul.... Obviously Trump’s going to sign whatever comes across his desk. Sad this country is just going down the s*** hole with it’s spending. No one will ever take a stand short of Anarchy in the streets when people’s checks get cut off for sitting on her ass at home and self responsible Patriots take acception.

Cut out the welfare entitlements and foreign aid and bring our troops home.

We'll continue to operate with a surplus if we do that.

His timing is seriously off. But like McCain, he hates Trump because he himself wanted to be Prez. Which would never happen.

I am tired of the little attention whore Rand Paul. Try working with people to arrive at a compromise bill instead of bitching about what others have done. I get the feeling everyone up there who has to work with him are tired of his antics.

God Bless this national hero trying to save us from insane spending beyond what ever obama did. Adding 2 trillion in debt for our children not including the impending doom of rising interest rates on our 20 trillion in debt propelled in large measure by leftists republicrats. Mark carefully the rinos that vote for this and politically know they are history. If this passes and is signed— the republicans are finished, 20% of us walk away!!! PLEASE contact your RINO and tell them NO BUENO!! and where is out damned WALL?? We can win this and shut down this damned nonessential government if we fight!! How3 did this happen?

I can sympathize with Trump and rand here. But I don’t blame rand. A double digit increase in spending?

Nah. He doesn’t hate Trump. He is a purist and a drainer of the swamp.

Whether this is the place to to take a stand is the issue.

Wouldn’t it be better to remove the budget battle from the Dems talking points and attack this issue with an even stronger Republican house and Senate after the coming elections ?? Bad timing on Paul’s part.

Seems like we haven’t had a real budget for years. Ever since Nancy “deemed” it to be passed.
