Supreme Court's conservatives appear set to strike down union fees on free-speech grounds
LA Times ^ | 2/8/2018 | David G. Savage

Paying union dues and baking a wedding cake may not seem like classic examples of free speech—except perhaps at the Supreme Court.

This year, the high court is poised to announce its most significant expansion of the 1st Amendment since the Citizens United decision in 2010, which struck down laws that limited campaign spending by corporations, unions and the very wealthy.

Some people just hate unions. But there’s nothing inherently wrong with people banding together to increase their wages. The problems begin when you have unions run by communists and government run by communists, then things get out of control.

The problem is, inherent in the idea of "people banding together to increase their wages" is the foundation of communism/socialism. You really can't separate the two.

That is, unless you believe that the workers are so well-attuned to their company's complete finances that they know what it can "afford" to pay. More likely, the workers just look at their supervisors and say "hey, I should be making what they're making" and are clueless as to market forces and why they earn what they earn.

Unions are largely organized crime.

Public unions _must_ be completely outlawed. If you work for government, you serve it. Otherwise, get a private job.

POST OF THE DAY!

I’ve been a member of the Teamsters, AFMSCE, every Hollywood “guild” and they are all crooks. Just look at their buildings. They put to shame any federal building. It’s really simple: the reason why you need a union is to protect you FROM GETTING FIRED.

BECAUSE you simply do not have the balls and the brains to get into the private sector and PRODUCE.

I didn’t care for his personality; still don’t all that much, as I just dislike boasting, bragging, salesmanship, ‘show business’; but he fights, fights hard and wins often, and that is more important. Personality wise, he’s about 180 from anyone I’d voluntarily associate with but he gets the job done where GWB pissed all over us and GHWB was as internationalist as they come.

You don’t have to fall in love, just fall in line :-)

I put unions, corporations and most governmental entities in the same category.

if you have ANY group of people larger than a jazz combo it is not to be trusted. If you have an organization so large that some people never even meet or know each other any evil is possible. I think it more the nature of groups than unions or corporations or governments. I could be wrong, tho’

I never understood how a union had the right to forcefully take from me money, are they claiming ownership of me as well as my place of work?

Like his two sons, he would have benefited from a few years in the military. Then again, I could say that about the Romney family, the Sununu family, the Burr family, etc.

This will shut the state of Oregon down in a big way!

They even make judges pay union dues.
