I want to address 8 billion for the
“ opioid crises” . I propose zero and prison for users. Addiction is not a germ or a disease. It is a character weakness. It is a ramification of a person’s repeated bad decisions. I dont care if you mke bad decisions. That is your business.
But understand that i dont want to
pay for your bad decisions. Zero , nothing, nada, nunca!! Make good decisions!! Why borrow from the lucky children born and not murdered by the mother and her hinchman to pay for your weak character?

If you simply wanted to jail the addicts you still have those attendant costs (compared prison costs per bed to drug treatment?), as well as social services costs incurred finding and maintaining homes for displaced children. It's simply not a situation where the costs are, or ever can be, borne entirely by the addict. I get the psychological appeal of imagining that scenario, but it's fantasy. Real world is a sadder place.

I disagree. Many decent people who have accidents, injury, etc are prescribed opioids. Some walk away after the need is gone others can’t. I work with a girl who’s life is unraveling. It’s painful to watch.

"Addiction is not a germ or a disease. It is a character weakness. It is a ramification of a person’s repeated bad decisions."

Or it's a 'ramification' of a young man or woman who wears the country's colors with pride downrange and gets something blown off. On the battlefield, they get a morphine shot or shots. When they get to the field hospital, they get more opiates because they work. Fast.

The legs or arms or whatever are left in a bag in a pile for the incinerator while the remaining Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Airman is transported to a real hospital in Germany. There, they get more. Back stateside, after a half dozen surgeries, they get put in recovery in a nice hospital. And are prescribed painkillers and physical therapy. Get the new prosthetic.

Then, when they leave the hospital, they get fifteen days of pain pills. No mas.

No treatment for the withdrawal of months on opiates - just cold turkey. I guess that's when the "character weakness" and "repeated bad decisions" come in?

Raiderboy says, "weak character".

Raiderboy - I say you need to widen your aperture and understand some things don't fall under your generalizations.

I don't think you're a stupid person, or a bad person, but until I see otherwise you are a holier-than-thou ignorant...well, you get the picture. I won't call you worse names because I respect your intellect elsewhere on FR. But you really need to reconsider your position here.

I encourage you to be more compassionate and understanding.
