How is this a victory?

Spending is out of control in Congress, and not only has Trump not managed to reign it in - when many were counting on him to impose some sort of financial discipline, or at least change the prevailing mentality - but now, there’s a “new acceptance” of high spending again, just what the country DOESN’T need.

Drain the Swamp doesn’t include bringing sanity back to government spending. Luckily, I should be dead before the US defaults on its debt and can’t borrow anymore, and the riots and civil war starts.

The Tax bill could bring much investment back to the US, which (assuming it increases the GDP) mitigate the gravity of higher deficits. ie, If I make 100K, but owe 500K, not good. But if I make 1 million, and I owe 500k, not so bad.

Okay, sounds good. What if you make, oh, say... $150k... and you owe $692,307.69?

One step forward with tax reform; three steps backward with this spending bill.

When The Wall comes up for dicussion, it will be “ooops, no money left”. Idiots all.

Mr. President - the Congress is unable to cut costs. You have spoken forcibly against bloated government spending and the need to work toward a mean and lean fiscal policy. As the Congress cannot help in this regard, it is up to your Government in place to take on the challenge. Order an immediate 10% cut for all departments and agencies other than military and law enforcement. Not in ten years, but in one year with the clock starting today. I say excuse the military, but we well know that the Pentagon is bloated and there much waste there, tell Mattis to cut it to the bone, set the example. Let the Administration show the way! Thank you, Sir!

What happened to the line item veto that Reagan fought so hard for?

It’s a loser to cut budgets. Every time it is tried the communists take control of DC.

The people simply don’t give a sh*t about the national debt. They say they do but then demand spending.

Republicans got rid of it during Clinton’s term. Republicans never look long term.

Look at how your House & Senate members voted on this PofS. Become a party activist, not a political wallflower waiting for a better invite to the dance.

>>>What happened to the line item veto that Reagan fought so hard for?

It was declared unconstitutional 20 years ago in Clinton v NYC. I actually agree with that decision even though I love the idea of a LIV. The constitution never gave the president the power to strike out "line items" from legislation passed by Congress.

The L.I.V SHOULD be something a Constitutional convention addresses, along with term limits and other things.

This is one area where the US, so powerful as it is militarily and industrially, is vulnerable to failure, and making itself more so with blow-out spending bills like this.

What’s that quote about the greatest threat to any country coming not from the outside, but internally? THIS is an internal threat to the US.

You don’t think China (and others) are, right now, trying to figure out some way to use this to attack/weaken the US??

Trump never promised any fiscal discipline. He’d be perfectly fine with a Federal budget triple its current size, as long as it was all spent on Americans.

Just signed Bill. Our Military will now be stronger than ever before. We love and need our Military and gave them everything — and more. First time this has happened in a long time. Also means JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2018

Without more Republicans in Congress, we were forced to increase spending on things we do not like or want in order to finally, after many years of depletion, take care of our Military. Sadly, we needed some Dem votes for passage. Must elect more Republicans in 2018 Election!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2018

Costs on non-military lines will never come down if we do not elect more Republicans in the 2018 Election, and beyond. This Bill is a BIG VICTORY for our Military, but much waste in order to get Dem votes. Fortunately, DACA not included in this Bill, negotiations to start now!

The Line item veto was passed in the 90’s after the Republicans took over congress. Bill Clinton signed it into Law and the Supreme Court struck it down quickly.

I have not heard anyone bring it up again.
