Better to lose your job, lose your benefits, and lose your general way of life in order to stake out an aggressive defensive posture using the 5th.
The alternative is exposure, conviction and punishment. But, like an ship throwing out all ballast in a last ditch effort to stay afloat, in the end, they still lose everything anyway.
But at least their resignations put up a fighting effort. Still, who's to say the gun sitting in the bedside table is calling to them to take the easy way out?

Ditto here. We keep getting set up for disappointment. Most of these people should have been arrested a long time ago, especially the Clintons and those surrounding them. The rich and powerful never have to pay for their crimes. Look at Sen. Menendez. That he is still walking free and in the senate shows how far down the road the US is towards being a banana republic.

Laufman has been around since the 80’s and has been with DOJ since 2000, so I’m guessing he also has some kind of fed pensions & benefits.

I’ll step out on a limb and predict that there will be whole bunch get early retirement, or get transferred to another agency with a pay grade increase, and that nobody loses a job or goes to jail.
