AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra quit on Tuesday after admitting that he had fabricated a story about attending a meeting in 2006 at which he said Russian President Vladimir Putin had outlined a strategy for building a greater Russia.
The incident has embarrassed Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s coalition government, which has a parliamentary majority of just one, and further strained difficult ties with Russia.
Zijlstra, visibly emotional as he took the floor during a parliamentary debate convened to discuss his behavior, said he had decided to tender his resignation to the king because the situation risked harming the work of the Foreign Ministry.
“We live in a country where the truth matters. That’s why I see no other option than to resign,” said Zijlstra, who had held the job for less than four months.

The Dutch guy got confused...thought he was meeting Michael Flynn.
Something must have gone wrong, normally he would get a promotion and a gig as a CNN expert, bashing Trump collusion.
It makes me wonder if this is just an isolated incident or if this is part of a larger pattern of global swamp draining.
I am 100% convinced that the swamp Trump is working to drain is not just in the US but worldwide. The reason that the rest of the world is so important is that the tentacles reach far into the US and into the highest echelons of our government and bureaucracy.

Putin is far from perfect, but to make up something like this? It’s crazy.

Sadly, this type of malfeasance usually get rewarded.

Strictly speaking, “Holland” is only 2 of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands (”North Holland” and “South Holland”). But since almost everyone speaking English refers to the country simply as “Holland” those Dutch Netherlanders really ought to find a way to simply this situation.... :^)

Kudos to the Dutch politician for standing in public and conceding that the truth is important enough to resign when caught out against it. Better than many American politicians and functionaries would do.
