A medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on an 8-year-old Florida girl who was abducted, raped and murdered in 2013, grew emotional at the alleged killer's trial Tuesday and had to interrupt her testimony for a break, the Daily Mail reported.
Dr. Valerie Rao, the Jacksonville chief medical examiner, testified that Cherish Perrywinkle sustained severe injuries from being raped and strangled, including a "totally destroyed anatomy." Viewing photographs of the girl's battered body in court on Tuesday, Rao became teary and unable to continue.

I’ve seen enough death first-hand, autopsies hold nothing for me. The fact that this kind of depravity is even possible in our society sickens me completely.

I worked in a big city ER for 20 years so I,too,have seen my share of death.To do that kind of thing to an 8 year old kid is something that I simply cannot get my mind around.
I took a few minutes to read two stories from local sources about this guy and his crimes.Too bad they can't execute him sloooowwwwllllly!
Isn’t this the case where the drug addled mother let this loser take her daughter in return for food from McDonalds and clothes from Kmart? That poor little girl.

The poor grieving loved ones of this little angel...how did they live through something this horrific.
I live in this area and have been hearing some of this. One of the stranger parts of this tragic story is the mother willingly let the daughter go with this man.

Smith allegedly lured her family to Walmart with promises to buy a McDonald’s meal and new clothing. At some point, he left with the girl. Security video showed her skipping out the door behind him. And this:

I don’t know if the mother was drug addled or not but she certainly made a very poor choice of trusting a complete stranger, a man who posed as a Good Samaritan.
But this really gets me:
Before his arrest for Cherish’s death, Smith had a long criminal history dating back to the 1970s related to lewd and lascivious conduct. Doctors determined that he met the criteria of a violent sexual predator after arrests in 1999, and he had served prison time and been ordered to get treatment, according to the Florida Times-Union newspaper.
In 2009 he posed as a child welfare worker and asked a child sexually explicit questions on the telephone and was arrested on felony charges, which were later reduced to misdemeanors, the newspaper reported.

He needs to hang, in public, and quickly. Otherwise, perhaps the decent inmates (and their are some) will do the job society must.
Make the punishment fit the crime, then.
If he had a shred of humanity left, he would plead guilty like a man. Will he be facing the death penalty?
