Opinion: President Trump must dump John Kelly in what's become a no-win situation
CNBC "News" ^ | February 14, 2018 | by Jake Novak

The Rob Porter domestic abuse scandal is more than just another bout of bad publicity for the White House. It's an actual dilemma that leaves President Donald Trump with no great options, only differing levels of bad choices.

But every sensible choice includes chief of staff John Kelly leaving the White House.

The key is what Kelly knew about the evidence of Porter's domestic abuse record, when he knew it, and what he did about it when he did know it.

That leaves Kelly stepping down quietly and the president not commenting about it as the least bad scenario. It's still not going to look good for a White House staff that seems to be in constant chaos and flux. But the appearance of a White House organization in disarray is still preferable to what comes off as a lack of decency and tolerance for damning evidence of domestic abuse, not to mention serious security lapses.

This is indeed a real scandal for the Trump administration. Real damage has been done and more will come. But what the president does next will determine just how serious that damage will be.

I believe God uses us, that he elected Trump against all odds. So maybe you should get back in the game to fight the evil, it’s worth it to save our Republic.

I understand that there was nothing unusual about a WH having staff members that were in place for long intervals before clearances had been completed. My contention is that the Trump presidency situation is unique, with just about everybody in the swamp and in the media out to destroy this presidency. The leaks and the issues of questionable allegiance have been unrelenting. What I’m saying is that in this unique situation it’s not good that there was no insistence that those security checks be done by now. Then, the allegations could’ve been answered. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise that the haters would pounce on someone not having security clearance when the opportunity came up.

“Trey Gowdy stirring up crap? Why?”

Because he is Trey Gowdy and all that entails, which is basically a frenzy of hollow words. He is accustomed to addressing a jury.

Kelly should not be up in Porter’s business.

Porter did the right thing (probably), and that’s the end of it.

Kelly’s fine. The story about Porter should be simply ignored.

Agreed, a big nothing burger for the media to suck on for days/weeks and express their faux outrage.

The Porter story is their best shot at distracting from FISA memo, the Senate Judiciary report, the upcoming DOJ IG report. “Look over here! THIS is the real scandal!”

It’s not that I’m not fighting. I am, far more than most people. But I’m fighting it differently than I used to. I know that we win in the end, and that it will appear we are losing right up to that point. And this world is but a snapshot in eternity. A single saved person is more valuable than all the cities on the planet because, unlike them, the person is eternal.

A poll was taken and the most number of respondents think this Porter story is a nothing burger.

Media are the ones interested.

Ignore it is right.

The press is never going to report the truth about these scandals. They did sexual harassment to stop Roy Moore. Now they are on domestic violence. About time for the next Sandra Fluke.

I just get the feeling that the Porter story is something Trump & Company is going to let the Democrats hang themselves with. Delicious anticipation.

Sure and Trump needs to do the obligatory apology tour and the media will start loving him.

I said from the start...

If they cannot take down Trump directly, they will try to cut off his support structure by taking down his most valued aides, one by one, by any means necessary.

Yeah - and CNN is now headlining the “story” (tale) that one of Trump’s lawyers claims to have paid the sex worker $130K to protect his client......I wonder when that “lawyer” will be disbarred......
