Senators Strike Bipartisan Deal on Immigration Despite Veto Threat
NY Times ^ | Feb. 14, 2018 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and MICHAEL D. SHEAR

A broad bipartisan group of senators reached agreement Wednesday on a narrow rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws that would bolster border security and resolve the fate of the so-called Dreamers, even as President Trump suggested he would veto any plan that does not adhere to his harder-line approach.

Their compromise legislation sets up a clash pitting the political center of the Senate against Mr. Trump and the Republican congressional leadership. Senators in both parties have been racing against a self-imposed end-of-the-week deadline to write legislation that could win wide support by increasing border security while at the same time offering a path to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.

Members of the bipartisan group, which calls itself the Common Sense Coalition, said their deal does just that. They were working Wednesday evening to determine whether their bill could garner the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster.

Republicans are letting themselves be bamboozled by the Dems again.

I hope Trump will indeed veto it.

Any Republican involved with this should have their phone lines burned up with hostile calls from U.S. citizens. They are little more than traitors.

Doesn’t it have to go to the House before Trump gets it?

Trump does not have to veto this Senate bill if it cannot pass the House.

“including construction of the president’s proposed wall at the Mexican border, over a 10-year period — not immediately, as Mr. Trump demands.”

No reason to stretch it out, except to prevent it from actually happening. The proponents clearly want to perpetuate illegal border crossings.

That’s the definition of a Republican win. Democrats get their liberal issues today, Republicans delay implementation of their issues so they can be cancelled by another Congress.

The”Common Sense Coalition” can suck
eggs. Trump was elected on his stance
of illegal immigration. It wasn’t taxes,
foreign aid, the trade deficit, or
infrastructure. We want patrolled and
controlled borders, deportation of those
here illegally. I’m tired of these
invaders who truly believe they are owed
something. Their parents made a really
bad decision in believing they could get
away with subverting set immigration laws.
I wrote both of my district Congress reps
today with my sentiments. I also followed
up with a few phone calls. Please contact
your reps and let your voices be heard.

This is electoral death to Trump and the Republican Party. Anyone pushing this is a traitor.

Deal (if signed) means President Trump is one and done and the Republic’s death hastens. The GOP is “dead” to me. I only vote Republican because lately it seems the lesser evil and inexplicably it could be in reverse in some cases.

We don’t need to budge off our demands as put forth clearly by Trump. If the left won’t see it our way then no worries just keep deporting any and all illegals each month. Go after the scum first and shut off any aid or hospital care for anyone not here legally. I have no compassion left for anyone other than my fellow citizens.
