Which crime did he commit?

Had he ever been voluntarily or involuntarily committed to a mental health facility?

We should not create a law that would have prevented this kid from buying a guy—to the detriment of everyone else.

We need to come up with methods to keep any crazy person out of a school.

We are looking to solve an unsolvable problem. Lets solve the problem of access to schools.

"Lets solve the problem of access to schools."

Let's do it the way that police departments and sheriff's offices do. That is, with gun-free zones, background checks, assault weapons bans, magazine capacity limits, waiting periods, and, most important of all, let's disallow the use of pistol grips on rifles.

No,... Wait, ... That isn't what police departments do, is it?

No, they use bullet-proof glass, armored walls, reinforced doors, armed personnel, body armor, semi-automatic rifles, tear gas grenades, video surveillance, id-controlled access, and probably dozens of other really good, effective methods of protecting themselves.

That is what must happen to schools and all other so-called "gun-free zones".

39 times police had to be called due to domestic disturbance and “elder abuse”
He posted about his desire to kill & shoot up a school.
That’s a death threat.

Access to schools?
Schools have been locked ever since Sandy Hook.
But eventually the doors have to open at dismissal to let the kids out.
