NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre at CPAC calls for more armed security in schools
The Washington Times ^ | February 22, 2018 | David Sherfinski

Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president and CEO of the National Rifle Association, on Thursday called for more trained armed security personnel in schools in the wake of the recent Florida shooting.

He said school districts, PTAs, teachers unions, and law enforcement officials have to come together to implement new protections, “including effective, trained, armed security that will absolutely protect every innocent child in this country.”

Speaking at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference, Mr. LaPierre said the idea that armed security makes people less safe is “completely ridiculous.”

“We must immediately harden our schools. Every day, young children are being dropped off at schools that are virtually wide open, soft targets for anyone bent on mass murder,” he said.

It’s such a no brainier to put guards at schools, and allow teachers to carry but of course the left wont give in to that because it goes against their narrative.

Exactly. The radical left does not want success in controlling this issue because it takes away their issue which they NEED to politicize. Such vermin.

In 2001, Michigan became a shall issue CPL state but they also created the school gun free zones. Prior to that, a friend who was a vice principal and a few other male teachers in his school all carried concealed handguns.

I think it’s the same approach with illegal immigration.

They dont want that issued solved by Trump.

They want illegal immigration to serve as a rally cry.

Many teachers and cops knew this kid was trouble - but everyone had a HEAVY public education, bureaucratic mindset - especially the school. admin Kept shuffling him around, ignored his many threats, etc, cops and FBI also dropped the ball.

Its clear to me the teachers and school system have the most blame. No one wants to say this publicly though.

The solution is for teachers and local L.E.O. to have much more leeway, freedom, and responsibility to deal with troubled kids and people at a local level. Let them decide what they need to do.

Without a doubt, add to that the authorities and the Florida social program folks - all were keenly aware and every last one of them kicked the kid to the curb which certainly didn't "help" him. In this case, "The Village" failed miserably.

I agree as a secondary measure.

The first line of defense is social media watch and intervention.

Yes! They’re finally saying it. How long have we been saying it here? Maybe they’re finally paying attention.

Well, whether they like it or not, it must be considered! I know some teachers I would trust completely to be very good and conscientious CCW in the schools. All it would take is training and a storage/carry protocol. This will put a stop to this crazyness.

Yes, we must consider it, "for the children".
