early a half-hour after Nikolas Cruz dropped his rifle and fled Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, police thought they were seeing him live on security cameras, still in the building. They were actually seeing images tape-delayed.
The Broward School Districts security cameras did not show real-time video for police, complicating their efforts to track and pin down the shooter, the South Florida Sun Sentinel has learned.
They are monitoring the subject right now. He went from the third floor to the second floor, the third to the second floor Theyre monitoring him on camera, an officer said on radio transmissions recorded by Broadcastify, an audio streaming website, at 2:54 p.m. In fact, Cruz was already long gone he had escaped the schools freshman building 26 minutes earlier and was sitting at a McDonalds a mile away, a timeline released by the Broward Sheriffs Office shows.
The video images were delayed 20 minutes and nobody told us that, said Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi.
Pustizzi said the video delay made a chaotic situation more confusing, but he does not believe it slowed efforts to rescue injured students. We got in so fast, were pulling them out. It made it harder to identify where the guy was.

Just plain nuts...
When minutes count....cops are 20 minutes behind
Say what ?!?
Sheesus H. Mahogany Keerist!!! as my late Dad would say....this is weapons grade stupidity.
nope
not buying it
talk about living in the past...
WOW....They more bizarre it gets.
“The cameras are not controlled by the Broward Sheriff Office but by the School Board, Pustizzi said.”
Folks, that right there is something that MUST be exposed. These weren’t security cameras, they were lawsuit protection monitoring cameras.
“For what possible purpose would you tape delay private CCTV security cameras?”
Oh COME ON!!! This is a PUBLIC SCHOOL - the last thing the teachers and staff wants there are people looking over their shoulders, even if it is the polices. The 20 minutes gives them to ‘experience technical difficulties’ should the need arise.
That would explain the delay.
School officials would have time to review the tapes and determine if they had been “lost.”
If there is a serious discrepancy between what we do to protect government officials, airline passengers, tv journalists, even teachers union headquarters and students in a school, which there is, then what is the difference?
One is we are taking advantage of students
Another is theres no desire for cameras. Why?
Just out of curiosity, would teachers and other qualified adults there delayed their response to the shooting by 20 minutes, had they been allowed to carry guns at the school?
Trump keeps looking more and more RIGHT about this nightmare.
“The video images were delayed 20 minutes and nobody told us that, said Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi.”
Nice operation y’all got down there Chief Putzi. Did FBI help set it up? Have you heard of electricity?
“Sheesus H. Mahogany Keerist!!! as my late Dad would say....this is weapons grade stupidity.”
Cut them some slack...they are democrats after all.
More proof that we need our own firearms.
Spot on! It goes hand in hand with their policy to not tell the police about problem kids.
