After all our armed forces have many young people ready to fight and give their lives for our nation.

I don't think you can compare the kids who enter the military to these oblivious children.

You are "educated" in the probability of violence when you join the military.....and are taught how to respond to it.

Heck, even the ROTC students at this school, responded differently when they came under attack, than the kids sitting in their "safe spaces" studying Math, English, Drama, etc..... because the ROTC students had been trained on the possibility of violence in their world.

I would say we have failed, as a nation, in not teaching these kids that their world will never be completely "safe"........no matter how much they want it to be. Once they understand that.........maybe we can teach them to protect themselves.

That is certainly true. I'm not sure whether the ROTC training was responsible, or the influence of their parents and family or both. Whatever it was I agree we need to teach as many young people as possible that point of view.

The main stream media has done their best to ignore the kids who did what they could without the benefit of any weapons to defend themselves or their fellow classmates. Some of them gave their lives to help the other ones get to safety.

Somehow CNN, Ellen, etc. aren't telling the story of Peter Wang, a 15 year old who died in his uniform, under fire, holding a door open so other students and faculty could escape.

More details here , and here
