Idaho Considers What Could Be the Worst Obamacare Plan Yet
National Review ^ | February 21, 2018 | Nicholas Horton

After rightly rejecting Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion for several years, Idaho officials have now concocted a new version of Obamacare expansion. While some supporters have rallied around the plan’s uniqueness, it’s important to examine exactly what distinguishes this expansion plan from the rest: It’s worse.

First, the truly needy already qualify for Medicaid in Idaho. Supporters of Idaho’s Obamacare plan want the public to believe that this plan is essential to the survival of Idaho’s neediest residents. But the truly needy already qualify for Medicaid in the Gem State.

Idaho’s Medicaid program already covers low-income kids, pregnant women, seniors, individuals with disabilities, women with certain types of cancer, individuals who require home-based and community-based care, individuals in mental hospitals, low-income parents, infants of Medicaid-eligible pregnant women, and more.

Idaho’s new Obamacare plan doesn’t help the most vulnerable — it threatens them by diverting tax dollars to able-bodied adults and further straining the safety net.

I guess enough Democrats have now moved there from California that it’s rapidly purpling.

I read an article about a month ago stating 23% of new arrivals to Idaho are from Kalifornia. We are the fastest growing state in the union.

Idaho will become another Oregon within 10 years.

Figure out where the next Pinochet is going to come to power and then move there.

“What do you have to do to escape from leftists?!”

Independent republics could be created by states giving territory to the Federal Government (think of Maryland’s gift of DC) and then by the federal government by majority votes disposing of that territory to a private corporation.

“First, the truly needy already qualify for Medicaid in Idaho.”

I’m pretty sure there are uninsured sick people in Idaho that don’t qualify for Medicaid and can’t buy or afford to use a Crony Capitalist Care (PPACA) plan.

I see you have an anti-Trump native American running for governor.

It’s not, but Boise is run by libidiots and our 12 year semi liberal governor butch otter is finally exiting the stage this year. Idaho went almost 70% for Trump and the state legislature is about 85% R.

Ha, my conservative CA inlaws just sold their house this week in Thousand Oaks. Their plan? Move to CDA-Athol-Sandpoint Idaho area. Glad they are conservative, but they do think that CA has great ideas and will bring that ingrained thinking with them.

If they were smart, they would be quiet and not let anyone know they are recent refugees from CA.

Wow, if they do this, scratching ID off our list of states to move to after we escape from NY.

Yes, I have no doubt there are uninsured sick people in Idaho that don’t qualify for Medicaid. But this idea that it’s the federal gov’t’s job, or even the state’s job, to provide such assistance is ridiculous. Health care is not a right. And bankrupting the state trying to pay for everyone’s care is hardly a rational exercise in good gov’t.

Gov’t needs to GET OUT of health care.

When the mandate is removed, there can be a thousand healthcare plans, and if we don’t like them, we won’t buy them. Idaho still has under 2 million population and has some rough country. The “free$hit” for the gimmedats is one of the lowest in the country. I have no doubt that this is the last frontier that the useless eaters would move to, as there is no support system for them to mooch off of. If labrador swings left when he wins the governorship, he will be a one term. Idaho isn’t ready for a lib, or a illegal loving butt kissing rino.

But what should the government do about a single mother of three who has cancer and can’t afford the treatment?

Let her die?

On ID’s Medicaid spending in 2016 per Ballotpedia:
enrollees:
294,4531
Total spending:
$1.7 billion3
Spending per enrollee:
N/A4
Percent of state budget:
27.8%4

Wow. I’d say ID taxpayers have given at the office.

In Washington, expansion is $2.8 billion over budget; enrollment has exceeded projections by more than 330,000 able-bodied adults.

This a false assertion. Nobody knows how many "able-bodied" adults are enrolled. Case in point: Myself, who was enrolled prior to entering Medicare. I was most certainly not able-bodied, although have an occasional good day and am getting better. There are many more who do not show up on disability rolls but are, at best, marginal for employment. The claim of a huge number of able-bodied adults is fake news from the right.

Is it important to make sure you don't have a lisp when saying Athol? I had fun enough with a voice synthesizer pronouncing Pocatello as POH-KAY-TEL-OH.

We have some cities with odd in-state pronunciation. Mackay is MACK-EE. Lots of linguistic uniqueness.

But why did Congress enact the ADA? Wasn’t it to allow people with ‘marginal’ difficulties to be accommodated?

I think we’ve all seen articles where the police - who are allowed to retire at a much younger age than the rest of us - are given an additional allowance for trivial things that are really no disability. It’s one thing to be able to not do a particular kind of work & another entirely to say there is no work that a disabled person can’t do.

How many trillions in debt do we have to be before we require EVERYONE to do SOMETHING on their own behalf? We are bankrupting both the states & the country trying to do an impossible task. In the end, families will have to take care of their own, the way they used to. As soon as we run out of “other people’s money.”
